This repugnant act is carried out for purely cosmetic reasons to make the pups look the way their human owners think they should. Don't listen to the jokers who say its to stop the dogs damaging their tales this is pure and simply lies. After docking dogs are still capable of feeling "phantom pains". No one would suggest a dog should have its leg cut off in case it damages it when out running!! I can assure you the number of dogs who injure their legs out running exceeds by a vast amount the number who hurt their tales. Statistically the most common reason for a dog receiving an injury to its tale is by getting it caught in a door being closed. Think about it! Well done the Scottish Parliament for legislating against those who can't be trusted to do the right thing.!

yearling Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 hi mac read ME s post mate what aload of sh**,bit of dramatics there i feel,rspca and rspb are just to political ,and reliey on the ignorance of joe public,my black fell is docked because he goes to ground and works allorts of ground where barbed wire rusty metal etc might and is buried ,old farm implements etc,these dogs are not reconised by the k.c so dont have to conform to a standard etc,and are docked for there own good and safety.

What school did you go to don't you know the meaning of the word MUTILATON. In what way would your dog be better with a tail left as a stump? This is also so pathetic!!!! Where did the natural world decide to cut off some animals tails off. "Manx Cats" Aye right and certanly no Jack Russels or other natural working dogs in there that I know of!! My dogs operate fine with tails if you want a Rabbit for the pot you'll get one but only because my dogs do what comes NATURALLY!!

I HAVE HELPED A MATE DIG HIS DUG UP BECAUSE IT CHASED A FOX UP A FIRE CLAY DRAIN. NATURAL TAIL OR LACK OF IT DID NOT HELP IT. WE WITH OUR SHOVELS DID. DON'T LISTEN TO THESES GUYS . YOUR NATURAL INTINCT FOR ANIMALS NATURAL SURVIVAL IS SPOT ON LET THE POOR THINGS ENJOY THEIR SHORT LIFES FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE YOU WILL FEEL A LOT BETTER FOR ALLOWING THEM TO DO SO!

But I have to agree with me totally. A dog (or any other animal for that matter) has a right to live as he was intended just as much as we do, and if it was intended to have next to no tail it would be born ike it. In the same way the animals that are harrassed by the dogs have a right to live in peace and not be hounded, they have just as much right as a human to live in its natural habitat without it being torn apart and sacred out of his head. This is the same no matter what it is, whether if be Rabit, Hare, Fox, Badger or the many other animals killed by dogs, the dogs are not at fault its the humans.
