REDCHEQHEN Posted January 22, 2019 Report Posted January 22, 2019 You would be forgiven for thinking this one had been the victim of a hawk attack - but it was another pigeon, what a mess who else doesn't like pairing up?
Hillstreetblues48 Posted January 22, 2019 Report Posted January 22, 2019 You would be forgiven for thinking this one had been the victim of a hawk attack - but it was another pigeon, what a mess who else doesn't like pairing up?Half brick in the nest box, simple but it works ,either that ask showman lol
andy Burgess Posted January 22, 2019 Report Posted January 22, 2019 its heart-breaking to see , had the same here with 1 a few years ago . very up-setting . i wont be pairing up this year i dont think
REDCHEQHEN Posted January 22, 2019 Author Report Posted January 22, 2019 Looks like a co-ck I think my other half made a mistake - but I think he thought the other one was a hen - if only he'd asked, I think he paired up two cocks
eastcoaster Posted January 22, 2019 Report Posted January 22, 2019 I always put one in either side of nest box (widow style)and put extra front on so they can't get to each other but can pair up through the middle sect .

tiger Posted January 22, 2019 Report Posted January 22, 2019 Half brick in the nest box, simple but it works ,either that ask showman lolCorrect
KBBigman Posted January 22, 2019 Report Posted January 22, 2019 So far so good this year, but last year had a latebred hammered by a cock that had got in the wrong box, it was the worst I had seen, my man wanted to dispose of him but I asked for a few days to see if we could get any healing, salt water bathed and then propolis applied daily, he's now a cracking young cock looking forward to training him this year. I use propolis any time we have an injury with the birds, also on a hen that pulls her own feathers at the start of the moult each year, works a treat.
REDCHEQHEN Posted January 25, 2019 Author Report Posted January 25, 2019 I think my other half made a mistake - but I think he thought the other one was a hen - if only he'd asked, I think he paired up two cocksThe cock had gone in the wrong box and the door must have shut locking both cocks in, I had no list so didn't know what went where. List done to put on wall now, so atleast I'll know which boxes they belong to. It's an awful shock when you are confronted with an unexpected sight such as this.
greenbar Posted January 25, 2019 Report Posted January 25, 2019 No nest fronts here so no serious fighting.
andy Burgess Posted January 25, 2019 Report Posted January 25, 2019 I know Exactly how you feel !! was this your Blackpool purchase a few years back John ?
Roland Posted January 25, 2019 Report Posted January 25, 2019 I am a great believer in the Half a house brick. Also I left one later - when on eggs - aside of the nest box etc. Seems a very easy and simple way of peace and contentment.
JohnQuinn Posted January 26, 2019 Report Posted January 26, 2019 Naw Andy its a stock hen. That result was of my own making I’m ashamed to admit. Decided I would put her to a new Ck this year. The day before the hen paired to the Ck last year got into the section and they re paired. I stupidly removed her one day and introduced that hen the next, Bad Management !!! Should not have put her in with the Ck for at least a week and should have let them into the aviary first to make sure they had taken before she was even put into the box. Feckin eejit 🙈🙈
JohnQuinn Posted January 26, 2019 Report Posted January 26, 2019 Every box has a half brick like Roland describes unfortunately the Ck is a big bugger so she still wasn’t able to escape him in the box.
