I have a half mesh front.with a 2.4 roof covering a full length averie.I have 4 2.4 compartments with a mesh door at either end off the shed, with a solid door in front of each.Which is left open when it is not raining.I think the damp is mainly caused by the droppings,as I had one compartment empty last winter which stayed dry while there was no birds in it.But I have no vents along the back of the loft.Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for the reply's so far. Gary.

Now that the damp weather is with us.Has anyone got any tips on keeping the floor dry.I put a layer of easie bed down once a week. Then clean all the compartments at the end of the week, replacing with fresh litter. But by the fourth day the floor is starting to get damp.the loft is open fronted with an averie roof across.Any ideas ?

I visited a couple at the weekend to pick up some birds. And they told me that they hand rear parrots(electrus)Which is a breed I had never heard of.They had a baby parrot for sale at £550 which was very tame. They told me that they are remarkable talkers. Gary.

Many thanks to Lindsay.(Greenlands)For taking the time to send me information on my recent topic on droppings testing. Gary.

Looking at some of the posts, has got me thinking about having my birds droppings tested.Like so many,I treat for the usual things annually. But this year I would like to try a different approach. So if anyone could recommend someone.I would be grateful.

Spot on imfo thanks. It was the auto injector I had been looking at.Which would have been no good for pigeons with a 0.5 minimum dose.It talks about boosters etc.But in the past I have used Chev vac-s every twelve months.Would you mind telling me when and how often you would use the colombac paratyphoid vaccine. As I am sure others would be interested. Many thanks.

I was thinking of using a auto injector this year for the fist time.I have noticed that some for sale on line say that the adjust at 0.5 but the colombac paratyphoid states 0.2 Can anyone recommend a good injector. And how much I should be looking to pay.

I have some young kings bred from birds I imported from Germany. Were aborts are you.

I normally vacinate for paratyphoid but decided to use para stop instead.I found it not to be as effective as Chevi Vac-s if It works at all. When I spoke to De Weird I found them to be very secretive regarding ingredients, and rude when they were pressed on the matter.

Thanks for that.Would you give any electrolytes to stop her getting dehydrated.

Yes it was as horrible as it sounds.I could see this mass of blood and what I thought was an egg.So I put it under a warm tap,and realized it was the membrane of an egg which I removed,to leave a egg size fleshy bit that was pulsing.I gently pushed it back in with my thumb. She is moving about freely and feeding. But has the squirts,I thought about electrolytes but wasn't sure if it would make things worse.I didn't want to go down the route of antibiotics if I could help It.Is there any thing that would firm the droppings to give her a fighting chance.

I have a young bird that became egg bound.Eventually she passed the eggs. But it left her insides hanging out, which I pushed back in and hoped for the best. After losing some weight, she is back eating, although her dropping are like water.I would normally not bother, but out of sixty young birds bred ,she is the best.Has anyone got any suggestions.

I agree with you totally. Its crazy having to go to great lengths just to dump what is really just compost. With changing the litter each week,90% of the waste is easi bed.We used to have one old chap looking after the tip, which serviced one village. Now It is run by SITA we have five young men on at all times. One to stand guard over each skip and check your rubbish as it goes in.For years we used to all chuck the pigeon muck loose into the green waste. My friend who is in his eighty's cleans out each day into a carrier bag and puts it in the bin.He has now been told that his bin wont be emptied if he carries on.He keeps no more than ten pairs. So you can imagine how few droppings there are.Thank's for all the reply's.

Ive seen the ones that are used in garages etc for moping up spillages. My only concern would be that it looks very like grit.So would it harm the birds if they were to peck at the granules. If possible I would like to get the ones that are specific for pigeons.Thank's for the replies so far.

I have had this conversation so many times with with management at SITA and BIFA who run most of the waste management sites i the UK or so they tell me.For ten years I desposed of the easi bed waste in the green waste with no problems. But ever since the bird flu scare a few years back they now insist we use the yellow sacks marked PET WASTE.If these restrictions have not effected you yet,you are lucky. But they will.

I recently visited a fancier who was trying a new floor dressing. It looked pretty much like cat litter granules. But he told me that it was very absorbent and treated for coxi. The name of the product escapes me,but has anyone any experience of similar products.I currently use easi bed which I clear every week and have to store for four weeks as the council tip will only allow me one pet waste permit per month.Which they are planning to change in January.Any imfo would be appreciated.

Has anyone tried the combined wormer that covers canker coxi etc.It gets to be a bit of a bind administrating each seperately every year.

Has anyone tried using the ultraviolet lighting tubes, that claim health and fertility benefits for our pigeons.I have seen them advertised in Boddy and ridewood.Love to know if they work.
