Kingslea One Loft Race with a difference, the idea was given to me by a member who asked me to run a one loft race, which was immediately refused, but after some discussion with other fanciers this is what we put together.
First we looked at the problems:
Disease and sick birds
Shipping costs and reliability
Getting all birds in on time
Numbers and handling them
Breaking the birds to a new loft
Are there to many one loft races
Most are run to make a profit to the organisers
We decided to eliminate all the above by:
Breeding our own
Only have 50 birds. Only 40 in the race.9 spare 1 Raffle bird
All owned by me therefore no complication with licences
No cost involved as I would have this amount of young birds anyway
I will be training the birds as I would with my young birds
No cost for feeding them I pay for the food as I would with my young birds
Prize money 40 x £50 = £2000
When the idea was set out to local pigeon fanciers we received sponsorship this means we will pay out £2100 per syndicate of 40 participants
We have 7 races with the Federation /club
We will pay £50 for the first bird home in each race
7 x £50 = £350
Last race 196 mls race no 8
1st Prize £1000
2nd Prize £500
3rd Prize £250
Total prize money £2100 per syndicate of 40
This is an idea every Federation / club can copy this means the money is being raised by participants and won by participants.
The money is paid up front so is guaranteed
The Raffle bird will pay all hidden cost i.e. printing, postage, and any other items required. The raffle bird will have a paid entry into the race for the winner.
I will publish photographs later of some of the birds, all are on darkness system.
