24 in the cotes, Chickadee keeps her fancy ones in the lofts, this is her latest squeaker an indian fantail

The white straight tailed pigeons or "garden doves" as they are now classed just stay around the cotes and garden but are capable of flying a fair distance. If you let your top racers out they would do the same have a fly around and hang about the loft, probably just better bred and fed for distance and stamina

It used to be that all racers were classed as homers ie "British Homing World"

If you are planning a release business then as long as you have birds well capable of returning home then you are ok If you want the best type of bird then you are looking for busshaerts, logans etc but they don't have to be top racers as time is not important as getting home safely. This is what is classed as a garden dove which we have in our dovecotes, the second picture is a barbary dove, totally different, no good at homing

I was told this was classed as a yellow but looks more like a red This is two of it's young paired to a spangle

He is maybe referring to pigeons that have fallen into the dove category that are not used for racing, ie dovecotes At the end of the day they are all doves(rock doves) sellectively bred and put into different classes and breeds depending on their abilities and looks Dove release is big business but the ones that are classed as doves are not released, it's white homers/racers, could be done for trade description

Maybe they naturally crave food for fat stocks to keep them through the winter months, Interesting to hear from fanciers in warmer climes, like Kent or Arizona ;D

We used to have Birmingham rollers on a depuritive mix ect, were great rollers. sold them to another guy and he said they never rolled as good so their must be something in correcting the diet
