  1. free to anyone with loft number, collection only. This nest pair, Cock & Hen. was bred for stock late last year and have not flown out, and was not bred from due to them being reluctant to pair up on time. I have others same way bred that have been raced as far as Dunbar . The Sire has flown all stages to Lerwick, The dam was bred for stock out of a hen that won 1st and 2nd Lerwick two years on trot. With few losses and only 12 boxes, i have culled, but this pair are too good,' and im sure will do someone a bit of good pm if you're interested
  2. does this help
  3. Kev, You can get them from Nimax at 6.50, 20 kilos, (green bag) as there are several sorts of them
  4. dropping always seem solid and firm, never had green droppings with them
  5. I feed them at the rate of 15% until racing begins, then 5%, always get nice sturdy youngsters, John Crowder recommended these to me in the 80s, won quiet a bit racing with them too at the rate of 15%, the birds wont over eat them as they always leave them till last.
  6. try George Plant from Driffield

I agree with a lot of your points of view regarding eye-sign, it is not the be all and end all, to found a loft upon. but many years ago i did pick out a top stock pair from over 40 birds at a clearance sale when i restarted in the sport, but i selected them in the dark for balance , feathering etc' before i even looked into their eyes. I was left with about eight birds, disposing of the others. I then went over them several times before i made my final choice, i picked a Dark pied cock with what could be described as having a green eye and a little blue pied hen with a true gold eye, this pair bred me over 20 1st prize winners out to Poitiers 421 miles, the hen was killed by a cat two years later, both bred winners with other mates, but none where ever lost from them as a pair, but half was lost with other partners. When i called it a day i gave the cock and a few of his sons and daughters to a club mate who went on to breed winner after winner with them out to Thurso, about 435 miles, year after year in good competition. I restarted again in 2006 with birds from two different top fanciers and have a team of 12 cocks for next season, some have good eye-sign, some not so good, but all their eyes tell me they have a good constitution with eyes shining like fires which is what i really look for in an eye. For some reason that im not sure of, im able to go to a fanciers loft and pick out his best couple of breeders and am often asked to do this... The pic of your bird reminds me of a Cheq hen that i had, that won 8x 1sts but never bred me a winner, i have a pic of her eye which i will put on here for you to have a look at. These days with ill health i just enjoy having my birds around me.

No im not a novice, been racing on and off for 51 years, top prize-winner many times in good competition, i agree that eye-sign is not the be all and end all, all things have to be considered.

  11. When i packed up in 1991, I quickly sold all the birds that had pedigree's and good results to match. I was left with two pairs that had bred loads of winners but no one was interested because all they had was a strain name, i gave them away to a local fancier and these went on to breed loads of winners in good competion right out to Lerwick year in, year out...Not all give aways are rubbish I have a nest pair of 08 late breds to give away, no pedigrees,a cock and a hen. g-dam won 1st and 2nd Lerwick, i have brothers and sisters to them, any takers ?
  12. when i restarted three years ago, the neighbours, two to one side, one to the other. complained about the droppings on the washing and all the purple stains, i explained that it was starlings and also the sea-gulls that they encouraged by feeding them..also my birds are stock and would fly away if let out, the chap to the right said 'yeh but' you' not allowed to keep poultry, and pigeons are poultry. I had to get books to prove to him that pigeons are not poultry. I let my birds out at dawn and late evening, the worse time is when the youngsters are learning to fly and may land on one of there houses for a minute or two.. What makes me laugh is that if a dove or woody lands no one notices, but if a racer lands you get a load of clapping, i asked one lady why she does that...she had no answer. Nowadays i have nothing to do with them
