  1. Yes, this is what I will do if I find any more of those. Very, VERY wise words! That´s what has come also to my mind when trying to help sick pigeon, or taking care of a small pigeon that left the nest too early (in some cases might have been the weaker one and was kicked out from the nest because of illness / weakness for some other reason). It just seems to be so difficult to turn my back to them - or to kill them.
  2. The pigeons have learnt to use the drinkers, that are close to their feeders, and often they drink right after eating. So I could put medication to their drinkers, and that way at least many of them could be treated. That garlic I will defenitely try. Thank you! I will look for that cider vinegar as well. I think that these pigeons have lived on this yard and nearby years. When we moved here, I tried to get rid of them - and I couldn´t. No matter what, they will stay here. So the only option for me is to keep them as healthy as possible. And now I have learnt to love them. To keep them completely healthy is a mission impossible, but I will try anyway. Thank you for being so helpful although I don´t have racing pigeons. By getting help and advice and by learning like this, I will have racing pigeons one day
  3. These birds are free, wild pigeons. Yes, defenitely I will take a pigeon to vet if I find one more like this. Those two in the photos died long time ago. Another racing pigeon person said that it could be trichomonas, in addition with something else, and that if it was ornithosis, I would be writing this message in hospital now... I do hope it is not the worst. Anyway, this will be found out if I find another one like this. Do you know if it does any harm if I give medicine against ornithosis just-in-case? I found some that I can mix with their drinking water. Recommendations about medicines would be welcomed as well of course. If there is anything I can do, I would like to try to save the rest of the birds from illness like this.
  4. Oh no... I am really worried now... I called to my vet immidiately and if I find one more sick pigeon, I will take it to my vet and he will check what is going on. His opinion was that we do not have ornithosis here, but of course we can not be sure. I hope it is not ornithosis, it would be my worst nightmare... Anyway, thank you for your replies.
  5. Here a photo of one pigeon with same kind of symtoms. He was the first one like this that I found and the eye looked so bad that I though someone had shot him to the eye... :B
  6. Below a picture of our wild and free, but sick pigeon. Not urgent, died already... I have been wondering if it was trichomonas or maybe something else. I cleaned the eye (with Petaisodona) and finally found the eye under that yellow-how-you-call-it. Then the bird was able to open his eye a little bit, and I kept on cleaning it a couple of days, and then there was no more coming that yellow stuff again. The beak was open all the time and the tongue seemed to be stuck to the upper part part of the beak. I did not see anything yellow colored inside the mouth. I did not have any medicine, nor better knowledge, so I started giving TrichoPlus in water, and made the pigeon to drink several times a day. After 2 days he got better and even started eating – or at least was trying hard... But then again got worse and finally died. I visited this web site today http://pigeons.taylorschoice.co.uk/pages/Pigeon_Health_Problems_and_Solutions.php and was wondering if this illness could have been CORYZA instead...? Anyway, I have ordered already both TrichoPlus and TrichoCure. Sick pigeons with this kind of symptoms I have found about 10 during 1 year on our yard. They also look like their feathers in head and neck are dirty or wet, but when I check them closer, the feathers are not really wet. If you know what I mean... (sorry my bad English again ;D ) The problem is that I can not catch them early enough, only when it is too late... That´s why I will try TrichoPlus, if it helps the pigeons not to get sick with trichomonas. Have you used TrichoPlus and can you recommend it? By the way, thank you very much for your very useful web site http://pigeons.taylorschoice.co.uk I already started writing my shopping list
  7. Thank you Al I have been told that those kind of birds are popular especially in Turkey, so it is much possible that this kind of hobby has arrived Cyprus as well. But I have not heard about anyone - here in the Greek side - who has racing pigeons. Actually, the local people think that I am crazy because I waste our money to food and water of the birds that just make everything dirty, and they think that I am completely nuts because I put rings to pigeons´ legs and even give names to them! ;D Let´s see if I start driving the pigeons around and flying them home; I might be taken to mental hospital propably! ;D It´s ok, as long as there are pigeons around the mental hospital as well
  8. You are all most welcomed for a visit! Because my trap does not work, I would love to have here about 150 people trying to catch my birds, putting the number rings to their legs and driving them around the island. ;D Thank you all for welcoming me. This little what I have had time to read the posts here, I must say that very useful forum you have. I already found a few answers to my questions. I try to use that search as much as I can, and not to bother you with the questions you have answered to million times before P.S. Sorry about my not-so-good English; it´s not my native language...
  9. I know that there is one man (who has racing pigeons) on the Turkish side - and on this Greek side I know only one: me! Where in Cyprus you will be staying? Welcome to sunny and warm Cyprus
  10. Hi everybody! Female from Cyprus, but not Cypriot I didn´t choose to have pigeons, they chose to have me. When we moved to our village house 2 years ago, I was trying to find a way to keep the pigeons out from our chickens´ food. I started a war - that I lost. I decided to join them because I can not beat them. Today: I love them! They are wild and free, but I give them clean fresh water and some food every day. I even made a "swimming pool" for them. I try to help the ones that leave their nest too early, or if they are hurt or sick. Many I have lost but many I have saved as well. Today I have made myself my first pigeon trap. It looks horrible, no way that I would show you a photo of it. It did not work either. We´ll see... If I catch any, I would like to take them a few kilometres from home, in order to test if they find their way back home or not. I love sitting in our garden, watching pigeons (in addition to our chickens, turkeys, dogs, cats, turtles...) and making photos of them. I would estimate that we have about 150 pigeons staying in our yard. Here is a few of my hundreds of pigeon photos...
