  1. Thanks Shadow, I released him about 20 miles away, if he is to return he better be able to swim about a mile , I released him on the other side of the Connecticut River. I still need to be sure that the rest of his family don't come back. I was told once a Raccoon finds livestock nothing can stop him from comming back. You must catch him and take him away. They always return the next nite, about 1-2 hours after sunset to eat the pigeons they killed the day before. Thats the only time you can be sure to catch him. Takecare Roosterboy
  2. [/img]Here the Raccoon that killed my pigeons http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8w1Hy58uaME Raccoons killed all most all my Pigeons, I lost some very close friends, and I have to start from scratch !! Please don't make my mistake. I left the fly pen opened. The raccon killed all the pigeons except 6 which were able to fly out in the dark. The Raccon left the dead pigeons .I was told to wait up the next nite. The raccoon was sure to return about 1-2 hours after sunset. I had to put him in a trap and move him about 20 miles away before I released him. I also got bit in the finger. I had to get 5 set of rabies shots. What a horrible summer . Please be sure you close up your pigeon coup at nite if you fly your pigeons.I had no idea we had raccoons in my town. I felt so bad after finding all my favorite birds dead on the floor. I was very close to them, I hand fed them , if I walked outside they would fly and land on my should or head when ever I walk in my back yard. I hope this never happens to anyone Takecare Roosterboy
  3. Here my co-pilot Feathers, he's a High "Roller Pigeon".I take him flying with me. He got over 20 hours flite time logged over this past summer. I been flying RC -Aircrafts for 11 years. I cannot fly my pigeons in Connecticut,we have too many Red tail Hawks here. Feathers only safe way to fly is within the confines of the cockpit.Feather flips the bird to any hawks he sees flying by. Feathers a true natural! he can handle himself in any type Emergency and knows exactly what to do.he's truly a professional. I will fly with him any time. 4. Hi Sprint Specialist These opigeons are flying all over the place !!!! Only kiddin , I have 3 pigeons ,one of them sits high up on the shelf, I hand feed him, The other two are in a cage, I will let the 3 of them socialize together .. Two of them are brothers the other was born a few months ahead. This spring all three will be going to the flypen and coop with all the rest. I just wanted to make sure they got big before letting them in with the rest. The only problem is they can become close friends, all three want to sit on my should as often as possible... They can be a real pain in the butt..... Have a Happy Holiday Jason.....

  8. I have two adult birds, I brought them inside for breeding, and after a few weeks they had diarrhea ,its been going on for almost one month , I thought it would go away but it has not, I ordered some amoxicillin it will be here in a few days. The pigeons seem fine and are eating lots of food and grit , I just afraid the almost clear diarrhea is not normal. I put some apple vineger two table spoons per gallon . I just started doing this. Does any have any idea what I should do ? I have 18 other pigeon that are healthy , I am afraid to put these two sick ones back in with the rest until I can get them better Thanks Jason
  9. Hi I only have 15 Pigeons, the size of my fly pen will allow me only a max of 25 adult pigeons, I am going to try to find good homes for a few of them , I only let two eggs hatch this summer, both the pigeons are doing good. Here a picture of the the 1 week old pigeons Here is a link to my High Resolution Photo Gallery http://pets.webshots.com/album/553336546itICoG

  13. I kept a few pigeons in side this summer, I set up a breeding pen, I am ready to return them to the flypen, its cold outside, I was wondering if the rapid change could make the pigeons sick ? My dad wants all of the pigeon out of the house. I am afraid because the temp is below freezing in the morning. Should I worry ? I will read any suggestions you might add. Thanks Jason... 14. Thanks for the advise , I just filled a small measuring spoon up with water and held it to the Pigeon and he drank it all up, which is much better than feeding him with a eye dropper. He seems to try eating his feed on his own but they just fall out of his mouth, I been hand feeding him seeds for the past 4 days. I also noticed his belly is not as full as it was when I brought him in from the coop. I just want to make sure he gets enough food, I am sure he will be ok and in a couple weeks I will let him in a coop so he will be away from the other Pigeons. His brother must of gotten out and fell upon other Pigeon space and I found him dead, I just dont want to take any chance with this one. Thanks Jason
  15. How should I feed a 1 month old Pigeon ? I have a 1 month old Pigeon that was being attacked by the other Pigeons in the coop, I do not know which one the mother is , and the rest of the pigeons are trying to peck it to death, I recently lost another one the same way. The next time I let any eggs hatch I will be sure to let this happen in a controlled section or in a different coop. I been hand feeding the Pigeon about 1/2 teaspoon of seeds a day. I am not sure how much water I should give to the pigeon. I been using an eye dropper, but the Pigeon seems not to like getting fed water. Any suggestions how to care and feed a one month old baby Pigeon ? Also how long before I can let it go back to the coop? Thanks Jason.

  18. Thanks guys, for the suggestion, I will try feeding them away from the Pigeons, if I were to trap and release them I only get one or two, they have a whole family of 4-? of them , they jump from the flypen to a tree and on to the roof, if they get in side your house they will destroy the place trying to find a way out. I will drop a few peanuts and lead them to another area, they love the peanuts in the shell. That will solve the problem . I am from Connecticut, and usually we don't have much other than hawks owls to worry about, never had a qsuirrel problem till the Pigeons arrived. I will let you know if it works, I get up at 5:30 AM , thats when the squirrels are looking around , almost every moring about the same time . Thanks Jason
  19. Squirrel trying to get in the flypen ,what do they want the food or the pigeons ? I power washer the flypen every other day and keep it very clean. Only a tiny amount of feed ever finds it way to the ground. This morning I had 3 squirrel trying to find a way inside. Not sure how to get rid of them . I can buy a trap and release them far away . Any adive ? Thanks Jason
  20. Hello Fancy Fancier ,the hen is doing better now ,but I was told it could happen again by onther pigeon . I guess if they don't lay eggs they will be pick on . I have a small pen set up for quarteen , if she is picked on I might have to put her in there, till I can find her a good home. I am set up small here and only have one large pen , next year I will have two, it cost alot just to build a nice pen. Still have alot to learn,I spend 6 hours a day sitting near then enjoying the chatter but it still alot of work, I been feeding them too much and I must make myself put them on the right amount even if it is eaten quickly, I let them eat all they want but I got to stop that and give them a measured amount. Just wanted them to enjoy their new home. Talk to you soon Jason
  21. I was going to set one up myself, photography is another hobbie of mine, I found out that taking picture of them at nite time seemed to work best, the background is dark and just the Pigeon was visible, it depends on your flash and how you like taking pictures. Once their new feathers grow back I will try more photos , I post a few of my Pigeon pictures on Webshots and invited this Group to view them if they wished,my picture site is at http://community.webshots.com/album/552266914QEYLZn Let us know if you ever come up with some ideas on making something up.My friend had a Bird Blind set up out in the Woods for years and he got some of the best pictures I ever seen, they look best in a natural setting, maybe if you could make up a natural setting and place the Pigeons there ,that might work well Good Luck Jason
  22. If it ask you to hand over your pay check ,you'll know
  23. Thanks Guys, I just hope its not mixed. The Breeder wanted me to keep these seperated from the Rollers if i planned on breeding them ,which I do not plan to do. In a few weeks I will attend a Pigeon show and for the first time get to see a varity of Pigeons. I can only keep 24 Pigeons ,or I need to increase the size of my flypen.
  24. Thanks All-round Racer I hope to get them trap trained and hopefully I will be able to let a couple out for a late afternoon flight before they get too lazy sitting around. Someone that lives close by been flying their pigeons for years ,thats why I wanted to get into this Hobby,it takes alot of enjoyable work which if Great for me. I am several weeks away from letting them fly. Takecare Jason
