We would train all our birds old and young in 3's up to 25 miles. We feel there are 2 main advantages to this:- 1. It makes the birds think for themselves rather than follow that batch home. In young bird racing especially we tend to get more birds coming later in the evening from difficult races and also the following morning that the majority of club mates. I don't know for sure if it is because the birds are trained in smaller numbers or not and so have to think for themselves, but I feel it has some input into this. 2. Where we live is 4 miles from the mountains and which are littered with peregrines (35 + pairs known), so if you train in small numbers if Percy does decide to strike your birds it will only be 3 birds that he/she comes into direct contact with rather than your whole team is you train en mass. Personally I still think it was bad form on Phillips part not to contact me. If there was a problem with getting the hen to John Wheatcroft all you had to do was let me know and I would have asked John to collect her from you. This year alone I have sent back to England 3 NEHU cocks 1x2 year old and 2x3 year old over to be liberated in Sunderland (all of which returned with our birds from Sennen Cove) as well as a 5 year old Scottish hen that I arranged to get liberated in Ayr. I felt these 4 birds were decent pigeons and deserved a chance, they had all frlown from France before. On each case I was out of pocket getting them across, but I did it for the sake of the pigeons because I would hope that someone if they got a decent pigeon of ours in might do the same. The hen belongs to Phillips and I respect his decision not to sell this hen for whatever reason, all I am stating is that a simple PM would have removed any misunderstanding. PJ

I made Phillips an offer of £50 (what he said he had paid for the grizzle hen as a late bred ) when he first put her up for sale a couple of months back. I repeated this offer to him via PM a week ago when he was advertising stock birds for sale once again. On both occassions I never even received a reply from him, which I thought was vey strange and bad form on his part. It just seems strange that someone puts a bird up in the For Sales section of the site twice then says the bird isn't for sale. This would definately put me off buying any birds from him. PJ

Received a pair of Braakhuis old birds from Jimmy yesterday. Am very happy with the pair and have already ordered 4 additional youngsters from Jimmy next year. Both birds are of the type I like for channel flying, small to medium in size good feather and well balanced. The hen of the pair as a yearling was a prizewinner from Tours. I am confident that these birds will produce good channel birds for us, with time and patience and will also make a good cross into our exisiting distance family. Many thanks Jimmy. PJ

I caught the following 3 birds old birds tonight on a nearby neighbours house. They said they ahd been there 2 days and had been picking in their garden. All 3 birds are badly down and pretty much flown out. Their ring numbers are:- SU 04 AB 2947 NEHU 05 TV 1178 NEHU 06 NEC 4051. There has been a lot of English and Scottish birds over here in the last couple of weeks possibly due to clashing with our birds coming into Ireland, I know of 14 birds that where sent back to the mainland this week. These seem decent pigeons that have just got into the wrong company and been taken offline. The SU hen has an ETS ring on her also. Can anyone help locate their owners? Many thanks PJ
