  1. I see your site says including europe do you just mean holand belgium n the surrounding northern areas of would further south in france be an option? & would this be by hooking up with another carrier or a more expensive drive it down yourselves journey?
  2. ok i understand about dilutes n basic mendel genetics what confuses me though is whats the difference between a yellow & a dun ?
  3. YES ive chased goshawks away 5 times this year when ive had the pigeons flying around the loft 3 times shouting & clapping while they where trying to hit the pigeons & twice when they had pinned a bird on the ground last winter i kept the birds locked in to try & stop the winter losses id had the year before only to lose 5 birds in the first 2 weeks i started them flying out ( 2 highly favoured candidates for my distance team ) then theres the birds that have just disappeared from around the lofts lost track of that number now with young birds n all then ive found i cant train from the same points to often as the hawks learn & start to turn up when im realesing the second or third batch n whole lot at once n they dont learn a lot in my opinion then you start to look at the good birds who just drop from raceing or come back well late with a fair few feathers regrowing in the tail this is around angouleme in france south of dax n pau where you race you distance birds from so with the summer heat here it makes me wonder about midday liberations as any bird that goes down for water somewhere near us is taking its chances
  4. my best 2 youngsters from last year have slightly oval pupils. ones breed me 2 very consistant HENS this year the other took ace yearling prize in the club Both though have what i look for in eyes ... Small pupils thick granulated iris's good addaptions circles Strong colour ive read that oval pupils are not good a few places N maybe perfect circles are better but MR Basket usualy knows more than we do
  5. well ive got no papers with my pair but a fiend of my fathers was outing his janssen lines & gave me 4 birds ( & he doesent buy or keep rubbish ) last year the mullerman x janssen broken wing racer was crossed to the exelent janssen hen he suplied........ 2 excelent blue cocks breed the first one 180 topped club n got high in regional results 2nd race as young bird so I stocked him for this year the brother 179 as a yearling won the club ace yearling prize for me by about 20 places ( being the addition of all the prizes in all the yearling races) so placed in the high prizes every single race raced natural so im inbreeding a line around them & the parents it looks like
  6. will the light system work for me ? I live in southern france & our young bird season starts end of june// start of july (avian flu permitting) as starting any later the weather is to hot when the longer young bird races arrive but in the winter -10 - 15 at night is not unusual up to about mid feb last year i bred from january thru to march for raceing the january birds all looked the part but i didnt get a good young bird among them where as the bred birds had a little spike of good birds just when the weather changed so im pairing latter this year what is the lattest you think birds could be bred for the light system under this time scale for racing ?

    eyes

i dont know how well it would work as pigeons tend to move a bit but for really closeup work the cheap alternative to a new lens used to be a set of extension to go between your camera & lens I know ive still got pictures of the queens eye from a postage stamp that i did when i was a teenager & the full stamp as well so one set should do it but ask in a good photo shop if it will work with digital cameras

    Deep Litter

Well i live in south france & i use deep litter as we are restoring the house last summer i used the excess "chaux" brushings from the stone walls this is basicaly a french building lime mixed with 3-4 parts sand then water when it dries its solid but just before its fully dry the excess is brushed off the walls to expose all the stones this excess is what ive used with this & large floor vents under the nest boxes the lofts are constantly dry racking & cleaning out is easy & the lime in the mix pretty much sorts out the nastys & ive seen no ill effects in the birds actualy it seams to still react slightly so once it gets wet it dries fast im going to try another section with this plus oak wood shavings as the high tanin levels make that death to most creepys but i will use wall mounted drinkers as i dont fancy the idea of the birds drinking water with the tanins in
  9. mine sense disasters they all fly off n leave me if theres a bad race
  10. I did find this on one of the larger french pigeon sites: - I have just received a memorandum: Amendment 112? Article 58, paragraph 3 (new) 3: The commission allows the Member States to use, temporarily the protective Inoculation, for the zones and groups at the risks, in the possibility of an international situation criticizes, instead of total cloistering without this causing restrictions of the Community trade. Nederlandse Pluimvee Societeit hopes that this will open the way towards the vaccination of all the poultries. This note emanates from the European Commission of the Agriculture and the European Parliament which accepted the Vaccination of the Poultries. HAVE Pro - Nous Vaccine will continue to beat us to save what can be it. With other countries we continue to coordinate us, to try to soften measurements on the Européen level. Well cordially the SNC so there maybe the option of vacinating agains the flu as some of the already approved vacines have been tested & found effective against it sry about translation not being perfect i just babel fished it
  11. I agree totaly & as to westys point i know most old clubs used 2 have a novice trophy as ive recently found an old tin of paper clipping in parents attic the 3 clubs he belonged to all had one mentioned in there prizegiveng lists. also in france theres a novice championship run like the sprint , middle distance n long distance ones. maybe the feds in england that run these championship comps could also do a novice one n maybe a junior one as well just a thought

  14. Im suprised the rspb see any birds at all with thier heads stuck all the way up there !!
  15. We ive not long started in realy. tho i didnt need help as ive more joined the family team on a more commited basis. so i have picked up lots over the precceading years. i found ppl most helpfull i asked one well know flyer how much a couple of birds from his good red line would be & he replyed " ive never sold a pigeon in my life n im not starting now u want some ill breed u some" & I was gifted 4 cracking looking birds very well breed a van hove, a koopman, a camphiusx engels, & a dirk van dyke bird by a top flyer in our club he'd brought them in 2 cross in to his & decided if it aint broken dont fix it as for the sport dieing out well id be more worried about the animal rights ppl trying 2 get it banned it maybe in decline at the moment where we are but remember its a world wide thing & whos to say how many of our newer citizens here coming from countrys where its popular wont join us if we welcome them n thanks for the birds if any of you read this ;D 8) ;D
  16. On a side note i thought u wearnt ment 2 keep any eggs in the fridge as it makes the membrane more suseptible 2 salmonela getting thru it so if u did fridge them near hens eggs this could pass to them n cost u some of the young
  17. Another option is breed a few late breeds from your best channel birds//stock birds at the end of the season & keep these for stock takes longer but no risk of upsetting your raceing plans
  18. ive been looking at vercammens record in belgium as the top pools winner well that looks like a damn good recomendation for a sprint/middle distance strain 2 me hes selectively breed a strain that will sprint well in even the hardest conditions ps weve got mainly van hees there an alrounder famed for its capability of winning at all distances if that clears up the confussion

    drug testing

Not all drugs would have worn off. The birds could be pumped with steriods among other things aswas/is rife in the body building circles the main point is the test should be totaly random not just after the race or these cheats will just get another chemical to dose the bird with on return to flush the first out of its system just as the cheats in the body building circles did. It could be facilitated that some individual basket containers are on the transporters with paper 2 collect droppings for testing in the bottom & a random selection of birds put into these on the over night jouney to the lib point but of course this will mean we all pay more for our raceing

    birds of prey

Just a question i was told the law allows poultry keepers to kill hawks if they attack there poultry is this true ?
  21. We're only breeding a few for stck n a few 2 order as were moveing this year so no raceing then the breed a few when weve moved to get some flying out 2 float stock birds eggs under next year No racing for a year bo ho ho but then we get the challenge of a whole new race program n finding all the best training spots ect all over again

    how many to breed

yep great read but remember however many you breed if u dont have enough time to give 2 that amount of birds n get 2 know n spot which are in form which need a rest ect you may do better with fewer birds
  23. i did read that flor engels n bert camphius excanged some birds with each other n then both their results went up a notch or 2

    Training YB System

The first training ours get is teaching them to fly to the landing board from the lawn after weve moved them to the yb loft n then to go thru the bobs we did try some 2-3 mile starting tosses this year but the birds thought this was to short n went of for a 1 1/2 hour fly so we just went back to the ten mile mark we normal use about 2-3 tosses here then out 2 40 miles as soon as they start clearing fast from the training point. normaly put a few old hens in for first toss from each point
  25. personaly im not sure hard 2 tell in the light in the pic. black splashes cocks brown splashes hen how long have u had these birds in your loft snowy ? & did the lady who gave them 2 you have them flying out ? it might just be they are taking longer to settle in haveing lost there fredom . an avary on the stock section can help but would warn if u get a lot of hawks near u this can lead 2 tears as a paniced pigeon can do itself fatal damage flying into the wires, my father lost his best ever breeding hen this way Tho in balance many say getting the sun on there backs when they can gives healthyer birds n healther youngsters ps browsed your site b4 m8 nice birds id never heard of putmans before n asked the old man n he hadnt heard of them for years he said. breed an extra pair for stock just in case i would nice 2 see ppl keeping the old rather than buying loads of the latest fashion birds all the best for 2006 n good luck with the mealy
