Poor thing! :'( but doesn't look bad for 3 days and 3 night in a shipping box enroute!
Shipping out of SeaTac has been a horrible experience this year! ??)
Thanks for posting the picture Bill. ;D Take good care of him,
his nest mate is entered in our WA state one loft race. ;D

Hi Coxy,
I race white birds and after about 3 years they started winning races. But I started with everyones handme downs, the occasional white bird they had hatch and didn't want, that sort of thing. Then kept breeding the best racers to each other. I wouldn't recomend this method though, get some good stuff to start with. I have since purchased some strains such as Bandits, Sticklebach, and most recently Ludos Classens. I am getting some really nice YB's this year, we'll see how they race. I do lose some to hawks, but then we lose some of every color to hawks.

I find all this info very interesting and the more I read the more I feel my friend has all the symptoms, he too has asthma. But I just visited him yesterday and he insists that the doctors know he has pigeons and have done the tests for PFL and that is not what he has. I also asked if it was cancer or emphazima and he says no. But still the best he wears in the loft is a handkerchief over his nose and mouth. Talk about stubborn! I think I will look into purchasing one of those good masks for him.

Hyacinth if I were in your position I would always blame myself it she was lost. Even if it wasn't my fault, I would always wonder and think I should not have sent her.

Thank You for your thoughts Gentlmen, I appreciate the info.
Bruno the active ingredient in Frontline spray is fipronil, 29%. It says the Fipronil collects in the oil of the skin and follicles and continues to be released from the follicles resulting in long term residual activity. It has been safe for others on their breeding canaries and feathered chicks.
With the pigeons I have been useing the garlic as well, since hearing everyones comments on here, routinely! and started putting it in their bath water too. I also tried a new product called Ecto Endo, it was suppose to both worm and delouse birds by appling 1 drop on a foot of each pigeon. But I noticed that I can still find a feather lice or 2 on most birds, so to me that means the Ecto Endo didn't do its job.
What ya think?

He has been to doctors and specialists and hospitol. But like I said I think he is not telling me the truth. He just says his lungs are clear and he is on oxygen because he does not have enough oxygen count in his blood. But does not know why.

I will let them sit full term when they go down on eggs again. I just thought that this way I would know who has layed 1st and 2nd eggs as I have not kept track really and dates etc, just switched them to wooden eggs as I saw them.
Between us we have about 80 OB's. Bill has his team and I have mine but we fly out of the same loft. It is just a lot of pairs to keep track of. Thanks for your help and suggestions Bewted.

Thanks Bewted. Wow, I was afraid it would get lost among the polls! It seems that Danielle has decided to vote!

Thank You for shareing Tammy, I have a friend who insists that he does not have pigeon lung but the symptoms sound the same and he has just been put on oxygen. :'(

welcome Westy ;D

If you can't see anything wrong then theres not much you can do but watch it. Maybe you could limit his movement by putting him in a cage or nest box so it heals more quickly. He probably just hurt himself.

Good Luck everyone! I can't wait! we have a trainer the 22nd, 88 mile for us.

I think I remember correctly but wish for confirmation and or any other advice. If I take away all the wooden eggs from my OB race team on natural system they should be back on eggs again in about 10 days. Right? Last year I was given the golden egg award, a gold box of wooden nest eggs, at out awards banquet for having the most eggs through the season in my crate at shipping. ;D I tried all sorts of things to keep straight who had layed their first or second eggs, but then some hens were laying in each others nests and I couldn't keep track! :

I've just read about using Frontline dog spray on my canaries. It says just use a cotton squab and put a drop on the skin of each canary. Good for 3 months so it gets the ones that haven't hatched yet as well. But since it comes in a big bottle and it is expensive I thought it should work on the pigeons too. Any thoughts? I know you won't like it Bruno...

Is there any swelling on his foot or joints? Does his foot feel hot or look red?

I am interested to know about it Tammy. What were your symptoms and how do you deal with it?

Good Job!! Is'nt it fun T_T???

I'm really interested in hearing from the other members on how old the babies are when you wean them
I am going for the 23 day mark at the moment as I have been told that their learning curve is very sharp at that age. Mine are doing good eating and drinking like little pigs lol.
Found their way into the aviary and came back through the trap when I rang the dinner bell today.
I like to wean my young when I see them eating one their own and flying up to the perch or at least have feathers under their wing. It varies from bird to bird but it is probably 21-27 days old.
I think you are right about the learning curve theory too. I know that when I have a couple age groups I am working with I sometimes slack up on one group and work with the other more on one aspect of training or another. For instance I may put the younger young birds in a crate to eat and drink while I let the older young birds fly around and use the trap. I have often seen that the younger ones more readily eat while in the crate and the older ones are more reluctant too. But it works out because when the younger ones go out the older ones teach them to trap and the younger ones when mixed in the crates teach the older ones to eat and drink in the crate.
They are fun! The OB's and their shenanigans are too!

Then it is most likely in the hip joint Snowy and Westy. Does it fly out? It could have injured it landing or hitting a wire. If it is just a breeder is it scraping with another cock? Or maybe just old age like Jimmy says. Not much more you can do.
