Hello, today i went to the great yorkshire show, and although i couldnt find any pigeons (were there any or did i just miss them?) i really enjoyed the poultry show and i was thinking about showing pigeons. Now i have no idea how you go about it or anything about it really. So i was wondering if somebody could give me an insight into: 1) How much of your time does it take up daily + Weekly? 2) What would be good breeds to start SHOWING? 3) How much space do the pigeons require and how would you give them this (sheds, rabbit hutche, ect) 4) How would you start up if you were going to start from scratch with mimimal costs?? Cheers, Mike

Thats a lot of money as a set up!!And i kniw 'you can do it as cheap as you like' but realisticaly your still going to have to pay club costs, pigeon entry and corn. Even if you get birds and a loft for free which is unlikely. Mabye a little synical? Mike

Here's one that will get you thinking: How much would it cost to enjoy one year of competative pigeon racing? So basic prices of loft, feed, pigeons, health care and all other such expenses (club joining ect). This is assuming that nobody gives you ANYTHING for free. Also, how would you go about it... old birds/young birds/both, widowhood/natural system ect ect ect. Waiting in much antisipation, Mike

Hello, i haven't posted in a while as the 'your not allowed pigeons in this house' talk put me of a little. However i couldn't resist back and have just read a post about a £126000 pigeon-core. So i was wondering, for a little fun. If anybody could tell me, what are the 5 biggest prize pots available in pigeon racing?? Thanks, Mike

I'm sorry if i have offended but that was not my intent the sole reason for writing was a thirst for information. By putting "Question Guys..." as the heading i did not mean guys as in males but guys as in this meaning taken from wikipedia: "Plural of guy; Persons, irrespective of their genders; A form of address for a group of male persons or a group of mixed male and female persons" Thanks, Mike.

But to fly widowhood every cock needs a hen?!?! Doesn't he? mike
-
Thankyou that makes alot more sense!! Mike

I know about pot eggs but ive read in the book AND on the forum that the birds should have raised one offspring before the season begins and if you have a race team of 10 cock birds and 10 Hens then you have 10 YBs which can easily overcrowd a smallish loft. Mike
