  1. Thanks yeah i thought i would need a cowl of some sort does it have to be a certain kind for what we need it for
  2. Excellent info there roland cheers mabey i will go with the chiminies.not sure birds will be suited to the weather up here in winter with an open fronted loft but the birds spend most of the time in the aviery anyway.which direction should my loft face to protect against harsh wind if im on the north west coast
  3. It wouldnt be fully sealed i was thinking chimenies in each section with intake holes on front buy then i read an article that stated birds kept in open lofts have beter feathering and less respitory problems.
  4. So im going to build a new loft but i dont know if its better to have a fully sealed (other than ventalation) with heat source or to have and open front loft simillar to the natural breeding stations.what are the pros and cons of each thanks
  5. So the ingredients in them wont harm the birds i might give them a try along with breeding mix wen i pair up thanks
  6. .
  7. Has anyone tried feeding fish pelllets to ther birds when rearing young they contain 50%protien fish meal wheat gluten fish oil wheat soya protine and horse beans would any of these ingreedients be harmful to the birds
  8. There isnt mate i was going to join a club in inverness but this year but because im still getting to grips i figured it would probly work out better in the long run if this year i just focused on learning how to keep them in good health and homing well before i throw racing into the mix.im bursting to get racing them tho but i know ive alot to learn.im also tryn to get others ivolved an look to start oour own club but peple seem put off by the idea of bop they recon cos we live in the sticks well be hit hard.i tell em bop are everywhere iys unfortunately part of the game only time will tell ive not seen one yet tho so am hopeful.il soon find out once i toss them up the glen too 30 mile
  9. Thanks guys good feed back atleast now i have something to look il give mine a look the moro and see had my second round of yb out for a 2 mile toss today all back safe and sound 1st round are up to 10 mile now going well my only issue now is geting them to trap when they are called in they come in there own time
  10. morning everyone im just reading an article about billy gordon, in it he states that balance is very important for dictance birds ive also herd other people stating they must have good balance ,how does a beginer look for this in birds.
  11. thanks guys very good point, the ones that have layed are still on there first egg so arent sitting il maby just give it till the day or 2 after the first lot have layed there 2nd and just put the ones back after they lay 2nd egg dnt want to risk loosing them cos iv held onto them too long
  12. thanks
  13. how long can eggs be stored so they are still viable before the are incubated,my stock birds are around a week apart from the first egg layed to the last layed, what i am doing is replacing the eggs as they are layed with pot eggs and givr them all back when they all layed so they all hatch within a day or 2 of each other rather than 7 to 9 days apart.
  14. yeah i was so sure they would come back in eventually they were on my roof every morning and for the first 2 nights but not seen them at all last i saw them they headed for the forest but even when i let the others out i thought they would see them and fly with them they done that once and when they broke away that was the last i saw of them, the others are flying well now tho dissapearing for 10 15 mins before coming back to land on my roof but i flag them off for another fly then call them in after another 10 15 mins, one of them i like alot is from your cock with the orange bands.
  15. not seen them in 3 days now so thats that i recon the others are flying about the loft twice a day now 10 mins at a time trapping no bother
  16. still at it tonight only difference is i never seen them tonight but the were sat on the roof thismorning when i let the others out they all flew together for a couple mins before the 3 stop outs split and flew towards the forest the ones i let out came in and trapped when i called, ill get up at first light and see if a little extra time will help as they head for my roof from the forest at first light to sit on my roof
  17. the wife saw them on the roof this afternoon but i havent seen them since i got home i let one of the others out to se if it could bring out the others from the forest down the road but he didnt venture far,he sat on my roof when i called him in for bout 1 mins but after i got out an under developed yb im niow using as a dropper it worked like a treat down he came and trapped straight away so il do this again tomorow and see if i can bring them in,
  18. i did ally had an aviery sat over the trap they were using the trap, then they were sat all morning on the day i let them out they sat for a good hour aswell before i removed the aivery the 3 that are still out flew round the loft for a Minuit then went to sit on the roof while the others flew about they sat there most of the time they were out the others came in at the end of the day the 2nd day they were out they flew in 20 min bursts before landing on the roof again they seem quite happy up there they got to be getting hungry and thirsty now hopefuly there egar to come in the night im going to let the others back out and see if that will coax them in,what a sight tho seeing them tear accross the sky.
  19. not too bad then theres hope yet.lesson learned more trap training
  20. thats what i was thinking but i also thought the others that came in might just decide to stay out, they are stillon the roof flying about dissapearing for 20 mins and coming back to sit on the roof i thought they would be getting hungry and thirsty by now if they dont come in the night il let the others out to try bring them down again
  21. aye thats what im thinking were still there this morning was sure they wud come down for morning feed but no they decided to go for a fly instead wifes informed me they are still on the rooof with a fly now and then surely they will come in tonight
  22. obviously not light ehough a feed got 3 still sitting on my roof refusing to come down
