  1. thx guys , think it was just nerves and stress of the move, because not panting but is still very skitish
  2. i recently , 3 days ago aquired 3 pairs for stock , they was together in their old home but mine a seperated ,so i seperated them once home , but i noticed this yearling mealy hen heavy panting and very skittish looking around to take off all the time,i seperated her again in seperate section and locked in box alone nice and quiet, fed and watered alone , she seemed ok next day so put back with hens , but within seconds she started panting again , very skittish, fast and strong and hard to handle and catch , any advice on offer guys plz ??
  3. thx owen , will check out red rose lofts now
  4. nice one mate , i had 4 young uns on the landing board having a look about , but i hadnt put them out till the ones flying were all flown out , so i covered the trap and let them all go from roof to board to floor together , then uncovered trap and called all in , it amazes me how fast young pigeons suss things out , mind u , we all know when its dinner time
  5. thanks mate, sounds good to me mate , will try put up some pics as i go along
  6. some advice is needed from you guys please , im a new flyer this season i have been helping a local flyer daily, training old then young birds ,going the club helping out there too, just taking everything in and learning all i can ,my plan is to start flying young birds next season ,i have converted a shed into a smart 8x8 loft , i have a total of 11 YBs , 6 of these are apparently van reets that are not settled to my place ,im going to put them to stock to start my family for next season ,the other 5 birds are flying round loft and trained to 30 mile , then from this will have an old bird team the season after that , my question is that right next to the 8x8 loft i now have the space and the frame work for 10x5 foot x 6 foot high loft with a passage way between the other loft , so im thinking of splitting this 10x5 into 2 sections , one for 4 pairs of stock birds 5x4x6 high , and 5x6x6 high for 25 YBs next season , then the 8x8x6 high for 8 pairs of OBs on natural or a partition for roundabout , my explanation probably makes it sound complicated when really all im asking is have i enough room for my plans ???
  7. yes i would rather keep them as stock,as i dont want to loose them as have had a real good deal by all accounts , and it would not be nice for the guys family to see his pigeons circling the house with no loft to land in , i just wanted to know if using this yeas YBs would be ok to go to stock , my 1st 3 pairs , my only stock as yet ?
  8. how to break them , soon their pld loft will not exist so dont want to loose them ?
  9. how hard , and what sort of things would breaking them to my loft mean ?
  10. as a new flyer i would like some advice plz ,recently due to a bereavement of local flyer, very good respected flyer,he did not get chance to race his young bird team although they trained up to 40 mile , they are of the staff van reet strain , all stock birds were auctioned and sold , but his daughter asked me to make her an over on some pairs of YBs most with pedigrees of some sort , friend told me this would be an ideal way for me to start my own family, and that i can breed next seasons young team from these , does this sound like a plan for a new starter ??? as i said they have been trained so would take some time to maybe settle to my place , so is stock best for them ?
  11. now that is looking real good mate !!
  12. you done excellent job renovating the loft mate, its looking great bet u cant wait to get flying from it now , are a new flyer ? or not ? nice one yorkie
  13. hi , so do i just reply or multi quote , to say hi and intro myself here ? or new topic ??
  14. im not 100% sure its not the hawk, but it looks more like a wire injury like in its armpit and front of shoulder ,know what i mean , and it doesnt seem to be causing any problems,so probably best to leave to moult out like u say , thx
