    Wanstead flats

I used to live a few hundred yards from the flats, walked the dog there every day, it is a very good place to liberate, nice and open and the birds always cleared well but as said above the facilities are not good for convoyers and drivers.
  2. I agree that it should be one set of rules for everybody but where do you start! Whatever you propose some will agree and some won't, it will never be a level playing field and can never be! When I moved to Essex there was i guy near me that only kept 12 oldbirds and had won far more in the club, fed and combine than most ever will dream of agains many big team flyers. What ever limits, restrictions you put on won't make poor flyers any better, only they can raise there game to compete but in most cases they would rather run away and form an inferior club where they can win a club card or 2!
  3. the birds we had/ parents have still got are the old flying lines and we struggled to get new blood. We did find a guy in the midlands in his 80's with them but he's passed on now. The only new blood we could get was a canadian kormorner, slightly bigger but they have had the tumble bred out of them but the crosses have still been flying well.
  4. because the ones we've flown out have always gone out with the racers they tumble but not realy sure how many time etc.
  5. tumblers
  6. they do fly very well, lovely to watch
  7. these are some of our kormorners
  8. When i moved here the club had a 10 bird limit, you could send as many as you liked but could only nominate 10 for club honours! The club was won most weeks by trainers. All birds, trainers or noms went forward to the fed etc but only nom birds got club cards. We got the rule deleted, the old sec threw his toys out the pram and left, now every bird counts but we do have a clocking limit which stops big team flyers filling the sheet. Again all birds clocked can go to the fed but it gives others a chance and encouragement to keep trying.
  9. if it get brought in through the back door then take it to region!
  10. Best i've seen and handled in this country were Mikey Harvey's!
  11. they should be at least high enough for the dog (labs in our case) to get under, this allows air flow and prevents vermin from taking up residence under the loft where you can't get to them!
  12. Many people race natural which doesn't mean to eggs, many birds fly best to a big youngster etc etc, again its horses for courses.
  13. This is the basic mistake so many people make, darkness doesn't mean black it means dusk conditions so the birds are in a state of rest!
  14. good link, nice to see different loft designs!
  15. Remember a blue hen from them, strangely the only blue they bred, she had 12 1st's and missed topping fed by decimals. I didn't need to pair her to race, she flew to me. The old lines had such a calm nature.
  16. i had children of Fechan lass & lad, wish i had them now!
  17. I love the dark deep reds, used to have some Fechan lines.
