Hatchling

Hatchling (3/8)

  1. I have 10 white Pomeranian Pouters which I have shown at various shows in England & Scotland (Airdrie & Coatbridge etc.) They are very nice birds, Andy lowe had three on the pens at Blackpool priced at £50 each. He had all his stolen 12 months ago but has obviously got hold of some more. Robert Greig of Maryton by Kirriemuir keeps this breed and there are another two fanciers in Scotland that I have been encouraging to breed and exhibit them. I am Secretary of the VPC Blowers Club and we will be holding our annual show at Egremont at the end of October 08. Anyone interested in joining this club please get in touch, we cater for Reversewings, Saxons, Ghents, Old Dutch, Silesian, Thuringian etc.
  2. Very good site, I think it may help if the breed name could have been inserted, a lot of fanciers won't know what they are.
  3. You will have to tread very carefully with regard to DEFRA regulations etc. Don't forget about the VET who has to be available if needed. Nothing is easy is it?
  4. My two youngbird ring numbers are:- NEHU07NY5489 and NEHU07NY5490 I sent my own rings after the auction. Thanks Westy for your comments.
  5. Very glad to receive 2 smashing youngsters purchased by me in the Auction. An absolute credit to the breeder CLOUDVIEW who I can tell you was loathe to let them go and I can understand why. Do we have to register the ring numbers with anyone?
  6. Try ringing John Fitzgerald on 061 354013 he will help to sort you something out or will put you in touch with someone over here that has them. A smashing fella but be warned you could be on the phone for a little while.
  7. I reckon it's a Hen.
  8. I think you will find that they fly in the Yorkshire North Road, nice little Fed. friendly fanciers and still a bit of fun. Racepoints are Whitley Bay, Morpeth, Berwick etc. Plenty near enough to Pickering and Malton.
  9. I just can't believe that two thirds of the entrants are lost from these one loft races. How many get reported? where do they all go? I don't like the idea of Peacocks & Geese soiling the land in front of the lofts, it looks like a Cocci paradise to me.

    Bilco

I think I have read quite recently that he is in Hospital at the moment. don't know how serious or what. He could certainly talk the talk.
  11. I did not exhibit at Blackpool but several fanciers that I know had birds there and they don't seem too keen on going back next year. Bad room, bad access, too long in the pens etc. etc. I think basically it was a shop window for the fancy breeds and a commercial opportunity for a few dealers. As regards the sale pens most in demand were Fantails, presumably to use as droppers. I am not sure if it will receive the necessary support next year. It's not my thing but everyone to his own.
  12. I had one which was the old Stamvater janssen lines, bred a few with just a bit of webbing, they were no better or worse than any of the others.

    droppers

Nearly all lofts in the N.E. of England use Fantails as droppers. Just hold them and let them flap their wings when they see birds approaching the loft, let them go towards the open door to encourage the arriving bird to follow it in.
  14. Young Bird Show - November at West Bridgeford, Nottingham. Championship show 28th December, same venue. Quite a few Agricultural shows in the summer where they have classes for Fancy birds- Bakewell, Derby, Moor Green. I will be able to give you dates in a week or two. October show at Peterborough.
  15. Ever since we started to vaccinate we have had to do them every year, that includes youngbirds which are done June/July and they get done again in Jan/Feb. I agree that once a year should be enough but the U.N.C. insist on the above. It's wrong but thats the way it is.
