Has anyone timed in from France yet? If so what velocty, trying to work out what time to expect arrivals. Wind seems to be SW or WSW all the way from France.
I have ten (at the moment ) been to 10 miles ok. Got to first race last year with 14 and raced to coast and finished with 12. Hope I can do same this year.
I lose most of my birds flying around home, not racing. So for me breeding later makes sense, ie there is less time to lose them before the races start.
Don't frighten them, what I sometimes do is take a couple to the bottom of the garden and let them fly back up the garden to the loft. the others see them flying and strike up as well. But don't rush them.
I used to live near some power lines, and in my worst year I lost 14 young birds. Was always the top thin wire, just used to watch helpless as they flew through it and got cut to bits. Moved now !
Me too, said they had chlamydia / yeast and fungus. Have treated as recomended and birds look fine. ( but come to think of it they did before the test ! )
I remember a system from years ago where a chap had widowhood boxes on his house wall, no loft at all. He just covered the fronts if the rain was blowing in. Not sure what system he flew? Maybe natural with each pair and their young all in together?
I used to lose my fair share of birds, until last season. In racing I've only lost 4 birds since april 2007. Whats the difference ? Well I've started having my birds tested and taking the required advice ! Had 10 /10 from 205 miles on Sunday. Most have quite s few missing.
My birds have a yeast infection, is it from the Gemthepax? Or has that made it worse? Also what harm does a yeast infection do, my birds look spot on. The infection was only picked up by rutine testing.
I've used the needle in the past, but the birds never did anything after that. Infact they got lost racing. Given up using Gemthepax, my birds have a yeast infection and I think thats where it's from. Gemthepax is just brewers yeast.
