Thanks for the reply and as it turns out I am also a member of the Sportsman NFC same as Ken in fact a founder member and I have always done the ETS all systems. I know Southwell birds are not a Scottish strain but I think they will be good at the distance. Why I mention the Scottish birds is the fact I have done well with them. I won the NEHU Queens cup 2011 aprox 14000 birds with a blue cock I bred from a hen I bred from Dale Newcombe and a cock I bred from Scot Gibson of Ironbrige this was with the West Durham Amalgamation the same bird was was 44th overall the year before. Then I can say I have very much held my own in the Sportsman first with a blue hen I bred from birds of John McNiell, she won from 440 to Saints 618 miles with many wins in-between only beaten once but was second. Then I have a red hen bred from birds I got from R Combs never won a race but had many seconds, thirds and fourths up to 618 miles. In 2019 I was first and second N section NFC with two sisters I bred from Bob McDonald few birds made it as it was said to be a smash. In one race I had the only bird on the day with my Scottish mixture. I must mention a red hen I bred from birds I got from Mr Buchan whom is at the top of Scotland as this hen twice flew Tarbes 800 miles but twice just out of time. In 2020 I only flew two races in the WDA and two in the Sportsman and won nothing. Ken did well in the old hens and young bird race with three of his young birds flying 410 miles timing in poor weather on the morning of the second day. B Blackett & Son is the name I fly under. Some time ago I wanted to upgrade my Unicon champ 500 to a Champ PC500 Plus the one that texts you when you get birds and was told if I waited until 2018 I would get the new system that was coming out and the cost would be just under £200. Now they tell this system is on hold so I said I would then upgrade to the system as it is but was told I could not do this although people on the system are still using it. It all seems strange has any one heard anything about this.

Thanks for the replies, the one you mention blackdog I have read and I am sure he will be referring to the US gallon and states 4 notches (on another forum) per US gallon. The one you mention billy99 is different again as 1 notch to 2.5ltr would by just 2 notches for just over one imperial gallon. But when I read things again an imperial gallon is more water than an US gallon therefore I would need more then 3 notches. I suppose the amount you used billy99 must have worked OK. I am not sure what to do.

I am going to use Quest Gel (Moxidectin) 11.3g to worm my birds and for a gallon of water I am told I need to use 4 notches or bumps on the syringe for this amount. But as the instructions are American I think this will be an American gallon not imperial. This is the difference. An imperial gallon of liquid is defined as 4.54609 litres, and thus occupies a space equivalent to approximately 4,546 cubic centimetres (roughly a 16.5cm cube). The U.S. liquid gallon and the U.S. dry gallon are different units defined by different means. The U.S. liquid gallon is defined as 231 cubic inches and equates to approximately 3.785 litres. One imperial gallon is equivalent to approximately 1.2 U.S. liquid gallons. So I think if I used 3 notches it may be enough. What do you think?

I live in the North east and would like to train some birds down the middle of the country to Portsmouth or there about, so is there any organisations (Wednesday clubs included)that I could bring them to. I can get them to Buckingham and Leicester with my own Amal but I still need to get them to the south coast around the Portsmouth area.

Thanks for the information, I have spoken to Unikon and you can definitely clock on, read out and do the calculations or anything else that you can do with one that has has a pocket clock other than time on if the base unit is not at the loft.

I have just recently received two Unikon ETS systems I won and I already have Bricon. However I have just built a new young bird loft and was thinking of using one for this loft instead of buying another pad. I am not a big in young bird flying as I race only five and just train the rest. Regarding the the two systems I have won, one is without a pocket clock while the other one is the full system and I have a buyer for the full system so my question is could I still race with one without the pocket clock. Another help would be if I had a land-line not a mobile phone number for Unikon.

I run a no treatment program and have now for five seasons but if need be I will treat for worms and young bird sickness. I also have a microscope with camera that I have had for fifteen years that I can check them with and I find they always have a low count of both the CC's but I never treat . It was tough at first as the birds did not perform and I would have lost some through it but it was worth it as now treatment is a thing of the past but I still use my microscope on regular basis so it cant be canker as they only have small counts. Rats, I have none in the loft but I do have poison outside and traps inside and outside the lofts plus the lofts have top to bottom open fronts and vented rears. I think as it has been suggested it could be genetic so I will see what happens to the next pair of eggs due to hatch on Thursday and the make up my mind but these two birds really are something.

Thanks for the replies, I realised the potential of these two birds last year as when the got past 400 miles like cream they came to the top so I decided to pair them up this year. The first round one hatched but I did not examine the dud egg as it was the first round this is not unusual. The second round both hatched and then the birds went on round about until the end of the season with performances that exceeded all my expectations so I paired them up to breed late breds and floated the first round with one egg hatching, the second round was also floated and again one hatching the third round the pair sitting them selves and not due to hatch yet so I will have to wait and see. The two birds in question are not in any way related and the cock is 2009 and the hen 2007.

I have pair of birds that have problems hatching their eggs even when I float them. Some times one hatches and I find the other one perfectly formed but dead in the shell. As far as fitness both are winners this year at the distance one over 600 miles. Other birds in the loft are no problem in this respect. Can anyone please give me some advice.

I do have the birds good enough to try and keep together but after the information I have received here I think I will go for line breeding. Thanks again for the replies.

Thanks for the replies, I have raced pigeons since the 1950s as a school boy but only seriously for the last twenty years and yes I need to try and keep what I have. I fly in a couple of distance club sending a maximum of four birds and they do OK. If possible I was not wanting to cross others into them yet. I will follow the leads sent to me and see if I can work it out.

Does anyone no of any good books or CDs Videos on inbreeding and line breeding and if anyone can tell me the best way to do it I would be obliged. I have the birds for the distance but how do I keep them as they are now.
