thanks for the advice folks, iv no birds or loft yet, iv got plenty room in the garden to have one or two lofts but got a wife to contend with lol. shes happy enough for me to start keeping pigeons but doesnt want me to go over the top n take up the whole garden. lifes a whole lot easier when she gets her say lol

cheers sapper, so do i just join the fife federation and no need to join a national federation? do i join before getting my first birds or once i have them? its all new to me sorry.

hi folks im a complete beginer hoping to start a small racing pigeon loft from scratch. im in no imediate hurry to race as i would like to rear my 1st birds myself and breed my own racing team from scratch i would like to start with the minimum amount of birds and slowly and selectivly build up over the years and even then i would like to keep things on as small a scale as poss. as i said before i am a complete and utter newbie at this apart from a pet pigeon we had when i was about 10 yeas old lol, hard to believe just how tame he was, landing on us and feeding from our hands and the fact he flew free and always returned amazed me at the time and even now 25 years on homing pigeons amaze me. until now iv never had the opertunity to keep some but at last im in a position to have a go. i would really like to start from the very begining as its as much about the rearing and breeding my own birds as it is the racing. could anyone tell me what clubs or organisations i would have to join in order to breed and take part in races? how many birds to get to raise for breeding? just how small scale i could be and still take part in racing? minimum loft size and how many pens required to keep and breed a small team? any help and aadvice would be very much appreciated and i will no doubt be picking your brains for many years to come
