im not a vindictive person but when u see your birds being killed/injured it can bring out the worst in u unfortunately we are now getting to saturation point with bops and i honestly cant see how things are gonna improve? ive sent u a pm debs

i only became a pigeon fancier by chance (when a stray moved in to my garden shed) and hate to see animals of any kind suffering or killed but over the last couple of years ive gone from wondering what all the fuss was about with fanciers complaining week after week but that was until i had my 1st s/h attack a couple of years ago bad luck i thought but i was wrong and since then ive been hit by bops more and more until im now frightened to let my birds out
its obvious to me that nobody is going to help us fanciers so we have to help ourselves by whatever means possible and i dont care if that means a few bops are moved on bop numbers have got totally out of hand now and i will do ANYTHING to protect my birds >
if there is anywhere in the uk that isnt affected by bop attacks then count yourself lucky but be prepared cos your day will come and u will get your wake up call as sure as i did debs

i wish all those brave men and women the very best of luck and wish them all a safe return i cant begin to imagine what it must be like for their families waiting at home debs

just to let u all know that i locked my blue pied hen in her nestbox with her mate and she is now eating/drinking ok and apart from being a bit nervous seems to be on the mend after her bop attack thanks again to everyone on pb who gave advice as u always do when i need it debs
ps we have peregrines 20 miles south of me in brighton but would they venture that far to hunt at my loft? im assuming that it was a s.hawk as ive been hit by them before.

i let my birds out today for the first time in a while as they had been locked in due to the risk of bop attacks and all seemed fine until i realised that i had a blue pied hen missing luckily she came home just before dark but had feathers missing from her back and tail she isnt taking any corn and im wondering wether to leave her in her nestbox with her cock bird or put her in a basket with corn/water and bring her indoors where its warmer? ive heard that birds can die from shock after a bop attack so dont really know what to do for the best i know bop attacks are common nowadays so hopefully someone can advise many thanks debbie

im only using standard mice traps with a plastic base but if its rats wouldnt they have taken the newly hatched young, uns and not left them in the nestbox debbie :-/
-
first id like to thank everyone who has replied to my post every time i have a problem i know i can get sound advice on pb which started a few years back when a stray decided to make my garden shed its new home (its still here) anyway back to my problem, i set two mice traps last night but when i checked them first thing this morning one had failed to go off but the bait had been taken and the other trap has just dissapeared? any ideas anyone debbie :-/
-
no its not security lighting disturbing them as i or neighbours havnt got any, also i dont use nest felts cos heard bad things about them, i spose it could be a rogue cock? and none of the breeding pairs are yearlings? i do have a vent running along the bottom of the loft though so maybe its that? one side of my loft is closed in underneath so maybe its the mice doing it-doesnt salmonella come from mice? my drinkers have been freezing up overnite but they are always sorted b4 i leave for work so it isnt due to dehydration, i did find a fox in my back garden at first light some weeks back so thats a possibility the traps are laid now so il see tomoro debbie
-
i did wonder about the weather andy i was breeding the young, uns as a favour for someone else so maybe it is the cold but as lindsay says it could be mice especially with the nestboxes being on the floor il set a trap tonite debbie

ive found newly hatched yb,s dead in 2 different nestboxes within the last 2 days from pairs that have bred before without any problems ive sprayed the loft with chlorcarb today as i thought it may have been red mite irratating the birds causing them to leave their yb,s overnight and the yb,s freezing to death :-/ but if it is/was red mite wouldnt they have driven the pairs off their eggs causing the eggs not to hatch? both of the nestboxes are at floor level, what do u think? debbie

thanks for the replies everyone its given me plenty to think about debbie

hi everyone after scraping out my loft today i wondered if many fanciers use heating in their lofts and what they use to heat it? although my loft roof is watertight it just feels cold/damp inside the loft and surely this affects the birds any ideas anyone debbie :-/

ive just been back into loft and its definately bloody/watery droppings not a burst fatty lump or from any fighting ive ordered some easicox from hyperdrug.com anyway as ive already got harkers ascapilla for worms and flagyl tablets for canker in the cupboard if the droppings test then comes back as cocci i can treat them straight away i treated my birds with appertex last time for cocci so thought i would try a different med this time so my birds wont become immune to one type of med thanks to everone who replied with advice debbie
-
thanks for the replies guys i have just been reading up on cocci on the net and it said that cocci thrives in damp conditions so i thought i would check my loft for damp ( i know i should have done it b4) and ive just noticed a damp patch on the front corner of my loft which has spread onto some perches one of these perches belongs to the cock bird affected with bloody/watery dropping so i am going to treat all my birds for cocci but also get their droppings tested again can anyone tell me what is the best meds to use to treat cocci and any websites that can send it to me asap? your help is appreciated debbie
ps i treated my birds with appertex a few months ago so either it didnt work or the recent rain/damp patch has caused it to return
-
ive just gone in to feed my birds and noticed that one cock bird is passing bloody/watery droppings he seems fine and is eating well and not underweight but obviously something is wrong any ideas anyone as to what it could be and what to treat it with? i was only saying to my boyfriend the other day about how well the birds were all looking and then this happens? debbie :-/

wont name and shame pjc (even though my other half thinks i should ) as ive now decided to keep her and hopefully billt she will stay with me :-/ will keep u posted take care debbie
