  1. I would have thought a good racing pigeon is a pigeon that races good, but then again there are plenty of sellers/dealers who can make up a beautiful pedigree out of fresh air,and even more fanciers who would buy it.sad but true
  2. Your having a laugh mate, anyone with a bit of brain on them can see the end of club fed racing in the not to distant future, its been declining ,and has now gained pace,national/international racing/races will be the only future, there was a slight glimmer at the end of the tunnel with the beginning of the american type furturity races of the 50`s,which in turn produced the now euro-british 1 loft type races, but as is always the case, same old money grapping faces skimming off the fanciers money are ruining even this light in the window
  3. Hi Kev,The name Lerwick does not mean anything unless you put the distance beside it,thats why NRCC kings cup treated like a joke down these parts, jokers boasting how good they fly,but no wonder, just about scraping 500 miles in whats supposed to be for a kings cup. You can fly pau 570/80miles down here with no real problems if you treat the birds right, but lerwick at 620miles different ballgame, distance from there has no real meaning, time on wing what counts, and make no mistake about it,it will destroy most racers. That`s the difference between what some fanciers call distance birds knowing full well they are nothing more than middle distance sprint stuff.
  4. hi Grizzleworld,no colour in racing pigeons can make them fly faster,,bred better or any other tosh you may read, just because minority colours do not get in results often quite simply `s because there are a lot less %wise.Over the years there have been some outstanding lofts which had "rare" colours families, only problem you find now, because many fanciers like these pretty types, studs and the like churn out big numbers of rubbish to make money, possibly many generations of untried stock, whereas people like yourself useing the basket as you pedigree will soon sort them out if you listen to what the basket tells you, So good luck in your quest
  5. think your bang out of order with this comment,it takes time and dedication to win in shorter distances with bigger birdages ie i don't fly in the UNC but to to win out of 20,000 + pigeons from the coast or shorter is a dream come true, each to their own and if you like distance racing then keep your comments for posts in that category,ps i would welcome your comments on what youd as sprint To be honest AYE READY,thats my opinion, and majority of proper national(not mickey mouse) flyers here think same way,u n combine gets laughed at,all that hype for whats little more than follow my leader pigeons raced by follow my leader fanciers, makes me laugh , most of you lot frightened to death to race in l/k sections of nfc,or BBC /BICC even in short sprint type up to 450 miles, its a shame really,i would think there should be 1or2 good birds that could compete in true National races out of all that 20,000 + rubbish
  6. Hi Gladiator,Why would you ever think your best way to start would be pure sprint flying, nothing could be further from the truth, start as you aim to continue,go for the extreme distance races, any rubbish can win sprint type trapping matches, why waste money on training rubbish, there are some great distance fanciers in wales, join the gwent greater distance club and let those boys show you the way to go,you will find no better fanciers anywhere.
  7. Hi Skip,As long as you tell the original owner to pin carboard/newspaper across every perch/box so the birds to be broken in can only go in on to the floor, you should be able to do it in 3/4 days, but you need patience, and the cooperation of original owner, plus transport
