Copied from Facebook 20th February 2026 SAVE THE DATE! I have booked the Lord Byron for our Fed prize presentation on Saturday 7th November. NO tickets,it will be self funding. Plan is to provide our own buffet and the bar manager will source a DJ at a cost of £200. I can (Elaine)provide sandwiches and coleslaw to kick off buffet, any ideas or donations would be welcome. I will run a raffle to offset cost of DJ and again any donations for raffle would be appreciated. Support from members family and friends is essential as we need a decent turn out to make it worth the bar’s time opening cocktail lounge and providing staff. If unable to attend a small donation to the Fed through Willie Davidson to help cover costs would be great, thanks in advance The last night out at the Byron went really well a few years ago and hopefully this year will be as good. Feel free to get in touch or comment on our page. Let’s make it a night to remember! Regards, James Cowie

While Windermere itself may not have a central, public-facing club building, several nearby clubs in the South Lakes area serve the region. The Royal Pigeon Racing Association +2 Active Pigeon Clubs & Federations in the Area Millom Social Flying Club: A nearby club in the region that holds active racing seasons, with members competing in the Cumbria Combine and NWGN. Egremont Fancy Pigeon Society/Club: A well-known club in West Cumbria that has expanded to include a new mid-week racing club. West Cumberland Federation & Derwent Valley Federation: These larger bodies cover many local clubs in the broader region. How to Find Local Clubs in Windermere For the most accurate, up-to-date information on clubs specifically within the Windermere area, it is recommended to contact the local RPRA regional secretary for the Cumbria Region: Cumbria Region Secretary: Mr L Blacklock, 32 Lonsdale Street, Workington, Cumbria CA14 2YD (Tel: 01900 62346).

Copied from Facebook 15th February 2026 GLASGOW FEDERATION CHAMPION 2021 - winning The Jack McGougan Memorial - Mr Patrick Doherty Snr of Linwood. Top Honours in the Glasgow Federation for the 2021 Season went to the Linwood Lofts of Patrick Doherty Snr, being crowned Glasgow Federation Champion winning The Jack McGougan Memorial Cup. The ‘Sprint Cup’ for the best average of the first five OB Races was added to the trophy haul in a season which seen Paddy tally up 6 x 1sts in the strong Barrhead Club as well as 5 x 1st Federation and a total of 39 Federation Prize Cards. These modest back garden lofts are no stranger to success with Paddy winning at Club and Federation for many years as well as numerous top Section and Region positions with the SNFC. A recent 1st Section from the SNFC YB National as well as a Bronze Award for his top racing cock ‘Con-Ker’ , which scored an incredible 11 times from SNFC races, including being 15th Open from the SNFC Gold Cup in 2018 flying 550 miles on the night, has put Paddy’s name and his family of birds firmly on the map in the West of Scotland. The Natural method is employed with the OBs and the Darkness System with the YBs. Paddy being from the ‘old school’ is an extremely hard task master with every pigeon earning its perch for the winter. No fancy fads here just good honest pigeons worked hard from a dedicated fancier. Van Dyck ‘Kannibal’ lines and Jan Aardens make up the main base of the family, as well as recent introductions in the way of gifts from very good friends Alasdair Maclean of Oban and Roy Davies of Wales, to whom Paddy is most grateful. A smashing guy, a smashing fancier and a smashing team of doos. The Prince of Linwood - Patrick Doherty 🍀 Maybe we will sit over a wee hawf in the near future and do a more in depth loft report. Jonesy 💃🏼

Copied from Facebook Barcelona dreams sometimes come true! Thanks to Bruno Messiaen for acquiring this story which hopefully will inspire fanciers like myself to fly Barcelona. Rene Verborg Belgium- 1st International Barcelona 1994(29,329 pigeons) René was born on the Pauvre Leute in Marke on 18 November 1918. His father Gustaaf Verborg was a pigeon and rabbit skin salesman and mother Maria Christis took care of her two children. As soon as he could ride his bike, René was given the task of bringing the inspectors to the two classrooms on Sunday morning, in Aalbeke and in Bellegem, where father Verborg then basketed for Arras. At the age of 14 René left school to work. He was successively employed by various employers and started playing and basketing with the pigeons independently because father no longer had much interest in them. During WWII there was no pigeon game, but René still kept his pigeons. When the war was over, he started playing in his own name, but because the family moved a few times, the results were somewhat lacking. Together with a business partner, he opened a garage in Marke. The collaboration lasted eight years until René joined the transport company Nuyttens and five years later at Linofil. In the age of 40, he bought 10 youngsters from André Vandewalle in Wevelgem, which he succeeded well with. He played well and won many awards. That led to the changing of pigeons. Where father had always played at the speed, René was looking all these years to catch up and move from speed to middle distance and the long distance to finally make Barcelona his dream flight. A dream come true when in 1994 he not only won Barcelona nationally on 12,399 pigeons but also became internationally primus against 27,329 pigeons! He had 11 pigeons with him at the time. His "Blue Barcelona" made his dream come true! Pictures showing Rene when aged 76 with his champion Barcelona International winner

If only 1 bird vomiting from those treated may just be an individual birds reaction to the treatment. Isolate this bird and keep an eye on it

THROWBACK: The Legacy of the late Norbert Norman Norbert Norman, a flax manufacturer, left his father’s home in 1945 and settled in Oostrozebeke, about 10 km from Oeselgem. He immediately began keeping pigeons at his new house and raced there with great success until 1978. The key foundation birds then were the unbeatable pigeons from the Catrysse brothers of Moere and a hen from Van Hee’s “Atomic” line in Wervik. In 1970, under DESMET-LIPPENS name, they entered the Barcelona race for the first time and stunned everyone by winning 1st International Barcelona, a victory that Norbert’s father had predicted. This champion was the only National winner ever sold by father and son Norman, and it became the most expensive bird ever sold at the time. In 1971, Norbert made a 250,000 Bfr bet with André Busschaert that he could place a bird in the top 100 National at Barcelona. He succeeded, placing two birds—91st and 96th. That same year, Norbert and Filip claimed their second National win, taking 1st National Limoges in Oostrozebeke with a 20 m/min lead. In 1977, they outdid themselves by sweeping 1st, 2nd, and 3rd National Limoges and placing six birds in the top 10 National. Over the years, they added many more titles, including 1st National Pau hens 1973, 1st International Pau hens 1973, 1st National Limoges 1984, 1st National Limoges Derby 1984, 1st National Argenton 1989, 1st National Argenton 1991, 1st Primus Interpares in 1982, and 1st Ace-pigeon.
