  2. Copied from Facebook By Scott Russell 4/8/25 Unfortunately due to personal reasons I’ve had to make the decision to finish up with my pigeons. all pigeons are available from now. I have 40/50 ybs that have been trained out to 20 miles (4 times) 12 pair of stock that I’ve heavily invested in 20 old birds that have down me very proud over the last 3 years since moving to the allotment in Denny. 15 late breds I’ve bred for myself Any pigeons who have been gifted to me for stock will be offered back to the original owners. 3 aluminium traps 1 unikon ETS system complete with 3 pads and roughly 60/70 ETS rings & lofts will be available after everything’s gone. Thanks Scot

  6. Homing pigeons played a key role in World War I, being considered a reliable means of sending messages. Over 100,000 pigeons were used during the war, with a 95% success rate. In October 1918, as the war drew to a close, 194 American soldiers found themselves surrounded by German soldiers. Their only chance of alerting anyone to their desperate situation was to send a pigeon with the coordinates of their location. The pigeon, named Cher Ami, flew 25 miles past the German border to the American headquarters in just 25 minutes. The pigeon was shot by the Germans, wounded in the chest, but it continued to fly. Despite the loss of the coordinates, the Americans launched a rescue operation and found their trapped men. Cher Ami was awarded the Croix de Guerre in appreciation.
