Ian McKay Posted April 22, 2016 Report Posted April 22, 2016 General Champion "Golden Duif" UK & ROI The "Golden Duif"For the First Time Open to the UK and Republic of Ireland. Image The Duif Magazine is the oldest and most eagerly read magazine in Belgium, born in Antwerp the very birth place of pigeon racing its also famous for organising the most prestigious competition in the Pigeon World. The Golden Duif is currently run across a number of disciplines in Belgium, Holland and Germany and now the UK and Republic of Ireland. In 2014 Peter Fox said to me that I must attend the Golden Duif Awards, he told me that I would have never experienced anything like it in the pigeon world and he was correct, it was a most fabulous event. Apart from the Beer and great company I was bowled over by the following and attendance and I’ve have since learnt that the Duif Competition is the main aim for many of the continental famous fanciers. After this year’s event I sat with Jan and Rik Hermans along with a small group of UK fanciers and we all agreed that a Duif type competition would be great for the UK. The following day Rik called me and said that him and his father would like to thank the great support the UK and Irish fanciers had given them and organise a Golden Duif UK Competition with the help of yours truly. To say I’m excited is an overstatement. First step was to design the competition and list the rules, at this point Rik and Jan said that the competition in the UK must reflect the principals of the De Duif. The Competition in Holland, Belgium and Germany recognises the ability of the small fancier as well as the bigger senders and prides itself on being fair to all participants; it also wanted to distance itself from committee decisions and politics so we have come up with a simple system to evaluate the winner.ImageThe amazing array of Trophies won by the competition winners. In Europe the competition is divided into distance categories however for the first year we have decided to make in a general championship across multiple distances. So the basic structure is that as a fancier you need to submit 5 results, these will be 4 Old Bird results and one Young Bird Result. The 4 Old Bird Results must include one result from each of the following distance categories. Competitors must submit one result in each of the following five categories, comprising of 4 Old Bird Results and a single Young Bird Result. The categories are 1. Old Birds between 75 and 150 miles, 2.Old bird between 150 to 300 miles, 3.Old bird between 300 to 450 miles 4. Old Bird Result Greater than 450 miles and 5.Young bird result from a distance greater than 75 milesFor each result a co-efficient will be calculated; this co-efficient will then be multiplied by the number of birds sent in that race by the competitor, the five scores will be added up and the winner will be the entry with the lowest score. This form of calculation will ensure that the competition is fair to all fancier big and small. After all the results are in we will crown our first UK & ROI Golden Duif General Champion, Runner Up and Third prize winner. A small presentation will be made in Blackpool 2017 followed by a presentation to our three 2016 champions at the Golden Duif Awards in Antwerp where you will have the chance to rub shoulders with some of the most famous fanciers alive, as an equal. The winner will receive a Trophy to keep that will not be like anything seen here before. Below you will see the Rules of the competition and I would like to put out that each result submitted must be accompanied by an official copy of the result and entry or clocking sheet to verify number of birds sent by competing fancier along with contact details of officials of the organising body for verification purposes. So keep all of these safe for the season so that they are available to you. Finally I would just like to thank Jan and Rik Hermans for extending this marvellous competition to these shores, it will really help to promote our sport in Europe and beyond. To the competitors, well I would like to repeat something the Brian “The Legend Shephard†said to me, “I was the first and no one will ever change thatâ€, do you have the ambition to be the first ever UK & ROI Golden Duif General Champion?
