I remember back in the sixties there was 4 of us who didnt have clocks and we had to run to one of the well of fanciers to clock in, there was old Tam scott running and puffinng on his pipe in his mouth he looked like the flying scotsman, and Wullie Henderson who had to stop every 2-3 yards to have suck on his puffer, and when running the wheezing from his chest you thought he was a panda car with his siren on, and there was Jock McFadden he was the worsed he only had one leg, but he had an advantage, he had 2 crutches, and ther was me fit as a fiddle but could'nt run for laughing at the other three, and they say pigeon racing is fair  ;D ;D ;D

ps. the thread is not off subject as we are still talking about clocking in  ;)

just looked up the SHU rule for now, yes its still the same, quote :running allowance 4 mins to the mile by the nearest available route, and cycles half that time, so the only difference from away back is you use cycles now instead of bykes  ;D ;D ;D

yes, this is the same today ;D i remember running to time in , when my dad couldnt afford a clock ;D  [ 4 mins per mile ;D]

i also remember my dad setting the bike up [balanced on 2 bricks, ready to jump on  ;D in the middle of the front garden ;D [2 mins per mile ;D] when the bird came, off with the rubber , rubber put in his gums [had no teeth ;D] tore out of the front gate, fell off the bike turning the corner to quick ;D rubber fell out his gums ;D fell down the drain  ;D next thing ,he was clearing the drain lid ,with a pen knife [a wee tartan one ;D] bike lying in the middle of the road ;D retreived the rubber from the drain [stinking ;D] put it back in his gums, and carried on cycling at great speed ;D ran round to the fancier we were timing in with and scared the fanciers first bird on his loft ;D,,,,,,,,,,,true ;D [think the both of us were at the bottom of the result anyway ;D]   great days,,,fun ;D

This is just great  ;D ;D ;D memories, memories & more memories come back to me when I read this topic etc "PMSL".

Even I can still remember as a wee boy doing the running trick, before I had a clock, "LMFAO" I was lucky at the time !!!!!!! I was on the right side of the railway track, where we had to meet to decide the winner on the day, & I won a few races  ;D ;D ;D because my opposition couldn't get across the tracks because of the trains  :P :P :P at the time.  "Oh happy days" they were.

Enjoy.
