owen101
there are more people in this sport for money than there is for the pure pleasure of the sport i myself agree with bakes if i win mney it will be used for my birds and the fact that i am just the owner most of the work is down to the birds not me
Guest spin cycle
talking to fanciers about racing years ago they infer that everyone kept less birds...because times were hard. so perhaps the trouble is that the hobby is more expensive today because there is a need to keep larger teams. Guest slugmonkey
I dont have a problem with the average guy making a little money off of a few birds the REAL crooks are the guys selling birds they KNOW are inferior a guy moves to an advantagous position and wins some short races and all of a sudden he is a superstar and some poor guy who cant read a race sheet PROPERLY looks at this and thinks wow this guy has got good birds, no what he has is 10 miles of overfly and the wind in his favor look at this same guys results on a 300 mile race, oh wait he didnt fly the 300 ( his birds are too valuable to ship on a 300 ) and this same guy dosent fly OBs because he says that it dosent intrest him because the real flyers are YBs this same guy brings 30 birds to the club benifit auction and dosent do a damm thing to help and then pitches a fit when his birds bring 30 dolars apiece ( overpriced I say ) I put 2 birds in and put opening bids of 150.00 each I wound up buying both back and donating 300 dollars to the club I also bought another bird from a GOOD loft in Texas they are selling birds for 300 dollars and winning races I paid 100 dollars for this bird I didnt want it but I also didnt want this guy thinking I belong to a club full of cheap skates either I will give this bird to a youngster and hopefully he breeds a ton of winners off it. These guys get on the net and buy some used sons and daughters that didnt produce to begin with and then start advertising that they have some birds that are off Ganus, or M&D, or Cattryse or whatever flavor of the month they happen to be pushing that week the problem aint the money it's the gullible idiots that send them theyre hard earned cash to these guys and make them rich P.S. I see Ganuses name and hear people blame him well it isn't his fault he has brought SUPER pigeons to this country and furthered the sport by 50 years here in the U.S. and elevated the breed quite a bit as well !!! Guest Glen
Have to agree 100% with Dovescot and Bakes. I,ve heard the sport/hobby has been in decline since I started in the early seventies. It,s never been a big hobby here, in comparison to others, yet somehow stays balanced. As long as theirs 2 fanciers there will be a race. I really admire that gentleman with the tiny loft that his wife gifted him when they were married years ago. His success is to be admired. As with anything in life, as far as money goes, we have to live within our means. My mentor raced from a small set-up, compared to huge expensive lofts and birds, and was allways on top. Some things money can,t buy. JMO.

Guest llcoolj
PEOPLE PLEASE. LET US NOT GET THINGS MIXED. I WAS NOT TALKING ABOUT CORN AS MR HOLMSIDELOFT MENTIONED AND MR SILVERDALE LOFT IS TALKING ABOUT. I SIMPLY SAID GIVING ADVICE, WHY WOULD YOU PUT PRICE ON THAT? BESIDES THESE TWO PEOPLE I MENTIONE SEEMS FIND TRUTH IS BITTER. PEOPLE CAN SALE CORN, BARLEY OR WHATEVER THEY WANT TO, BUT LET US DRAW THE LINE. IF A NEW STARTER FOUND THEY HAVE TO PAY MONEY FOR EVERY LITTLE THING, IMAGINE WHERE THIS SPORT IS HEADING.... EITHER WE LOOSE NEW MEMBERS OR WE KILL THE SPORT. Guest youngzimmy
no slugmonkey mike ganus is not being blamed for anything i used him as an example of a man who has great birds but unfortunatly out of range price wise for a lot of us and dont forget the us dollar is only worth about half of uk pound so some of the prices here can run from expensive to astrinomical to say the least

Yeah i totally agree thats why i will only buy from someone i really know and trust. I would never buy from anyone else unless it was a complete clearance sale. Then by the winners or the breeders. jas.
