5 or so years ago a chap sent to Saintes 500 + miles a Soontjen sprint cock, not known if it was natural/widowhood..and won a gold medal.

When i met him and congratulated him on his success on his fine outstanding result,

The only question I asked him was... how did you manage to win with an out and out sprinter.

He replied to me...its all in the ART OF FEEDING.

Would that not be the same with distance birds also??,feeding them for sprinting/or there offspring?

Nearly forgot to mention a year later he sent the same cock back to saintes,it scored a 2nd

So i suppose its all down to GOOD PIGEONS,MOTIVATION,FEEDING?? they will score from any distance

Thanks for looking

Our Hen we timed in the Gold Cup last year homing into a very strong west wind and she is a "Janssen Sprinter", her family have excelled in club, fed and the inland nationals over the last 12 years for us, we thought they were just very good sprinters, but I have 3 Janssens in my loft who flew the gold cup or Claremont last year.

I do believe it is in the management, preparation and the feeding (and very good birds).

You've hit the nail on the head....Yourself being someone who is familiar with the continental scene, will know and look at some of the top sprint lofts on the continent are not afraid to bring in top birds from fanciers who play middle and long distance, but what they bring in is their best and put them into their best. One of the keys is you must have the best tools to work with.

A good pigeon is just that and yes the feeding has allot to do with it and sprinters can do well at the distance but if u want consistency better to stick to a proven family of distance birds JMO
