snowman ,look to see if there are any small black splashes on the wing or tail feathers if so it will be a cock , im sure hens dont have them ? hens sometimes have brown markings in mealys ...ray

Silverwings is correct about the black splashes on ash reds only being found on cocks-good tip for sexing them.However not all cocks have them,it depends if they are homozygos or heterozygos for ash red.If they are split for ash red and blue (heterozygos) the blue shows through as black splashes.Obviously pure ash red cocks (homozygos) will not have them.

Due to hens only having one colour gene ash reds never have black splashes.

cheers mate, if its the right flecks/splashes im looking at :-/

they are the same colour as the mealy bars

i will take a pic tomorrow, they are on all the light part of the wing feathers & tail feathers, i presume these are the ones
