Can any of you lads let me know if there has been any further developments regarding any of the 3 strays mentioned except the one already verified from bigjamie?

I mentioned earlier on this thread that I had also put in a 4th Stray from DUNDEE in the same basket but didn’t put it on the list with the 3 birds as I had phoned the sec of the club it belonged to and asked him to let the owner know it was on his way. I actually asked him to tell the owner to give me a call as I could not find his number and the owner would have been expecting it through the stray basket the week prior. To date I still have not received a call from the owner.

I first put this pigeon on the pigeon basics found birds on 24th August. After speaking to the owner, a nice old guy, it was agreed that I would either get someone to try to release it nearer to home or I would take it a bit away from my loft and do likewise. In the end up I could only take it 3 mile from my loft and 2 hours later it appeared again. I then phoned the guy and told him the latest news so we then agreed to put it in the stray basket. Bear in mind here too that this pigeon had already had 4 races.

As I have explained previously, I have only been able to race 2 yb races this year and I took it along to the club in my own free time only to find no one there. Apparantly the club clock base station wasn’t working so those racing had to take their birds to neighbouring EASTHOUSES club. After several attempts to try to find out what had happened at the club and being pushed for time because of work commitments, I decided to leave it till the following week and took the bird home again. I again phoned the club sec and explained the latest dilemma and asked him again to get the owner to call me as I no longer had his number. I didn’t receive the call and the pigeon then went into the stray basket at the weekend along with the 3 birds mentioned at the start of this thread. I again phoned the club sec explaining what I had done and let him know that I still had not received another call from the owner but the bird was now finally on its way.

Well if that was not enough of a headache to contend with, the bird arrived back at mine at 4.45pm tonight! You could have knocked me down with a feather and I am NOT a happy bunny!!! I have tried again to phone the club sec and the phone has rang out 4 times now.

What on earth is going on at the SHU stray centre only GOD knows, unless any of the psychics on here can tell me lol. As I type this I have no idea if the bird has been picked up and made its way back here from its original home or if it has been flung out at the centre in LANARKSHIRE and came back here of its own accord! If it has been flung out at Lanarkshire then I am utterly disgusted after all the work, time, and expense I have had to put in to try to repatriate this bird! I now have to contact the club secretary once again and get him to give me this owners numbers and go through the whole procedure once again before it can be resolved. With not racing and few losses because of this I already have too many young birds and not enough space in the ob loft to put them in next year so a transfer is not a suitable option.

Like I said to those critisisers previously, you know nothing about the circumstances at my end and the effort I put in to help strays and you jump down my throat for what you think! GIVE ME A BREAK expletive remove!!!!

For those of you interested enough I will update you on my findings later as I will be sure to get to the bottom of this one way or another. If this bird has been flung out at the stray centre then I will want to know why after all of the effort put in!!

If any of the other 2 out of the 3 lads could let me know one way or another if they have had their birds repatriated yet or if they KNOW that their bird is still there waiting to be picked up then I would appreciate an update. Thanks lads.

Hi bigjamie, this gets worse by the minute eh lol. Ive tried hard to think what could have happened here as that means all 4 haven't reached their destination. If they got tossed out at the stray centre in Lanarkshire then the 2 Lanarkshire birds could have walked it home! Something isnt right here that's for sure!

I managed to get hold of the club sec in Dundee earlier and the DF pigeon hadn't been repatriated at that end so the one I got back tonight has definately been released from somewhere. Where though is the question????? I gave it a full crop before I basketed it but I noticed on its return it was slightly down in weight and absolutely starving.

I will contact our fed secretary tomorrow and get him to phone Malcolm to see if there is any light he can shed on this as to why the birds didn't even reach Lanarkshire? If they did, and it was a cockup at the centre, then how come I have the Dundee one back tonight? It doesnt make sense does it? I may have to phone the stray centre myself too so bear with me mate and I will try to get to the bottom of this.

THE SAGA CONTINUES..............:(

PS. If anyone is confused with what I mean, I had the Dundee bird at the clubhouse twice. A week past when the club basketed elsewhere so I took it home again, then again Friday when it went away in the stray basket. JUST TO CLARIFY :)

Hi lads, bit of an update here but not much Im afraid. Sent our fed sec a txt in the early hours of this morning so that he could look into things further and perhaps have an answer or two before I got up. He works himself and I only got texts back saying he has been trying to get hold of Malcolm Lawson all day without success.

What I do know is that a club member of mine was talking to Malcolm at the open on Saturday and he ( club member ) asked him if there were any ML strays? Malcolm told him that he didn’t know as he was not able to take our stray birds through to Lanarkshire as he was too busy Saturday and Sunday! No other reason given, just that.

I have not phoned the shu yet as this seems to be an internal federation matter so I will wait to see what our fed sec has to say before taking this any further? By all accounts it looks like these birds never reached Lanarkshire in which case Malcolm was the only one capable of releasing them.

I got the Dundee one back last night at 4.45 looking thinner and absolutely starving! If Malcolm kept these birds in a pannier until then I don’t imagine they were even fed as I doubt very much he is supplied with grub if he only drops birds off and collects others?

This matter concerns the whole of our federation but more so myself and the other ML lads who put in any of the total 14 or 15 strays in the basket this week. It also affects those waiting on birds being returned. Had I not put a list of the birds up then this thing may never have come to light!

When I speak to our fed sec I will update further. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out what has happened here but hopefully I am wrong in my way of thinking??????

Have just come off the phone with our fed secretary re the stray saga. All 4 strays WERE taken through to LANARKSHIRE on SUNDAY by Malcolm so it appears he is completely blameless in all of this. There is a disagreement between what my club member said re Malcolm not being able to drop the birds off on Saturday or sunday. I wasn't there so I didn't hear it personally and why I don't like to go on heresay if at all possible. Malcolm did take them to the centre on sunday but I don't have any reason to disbelieve my clubmate either so was it said at the time and later circumstances changed and he could find time to take them through, I have no idea??????? The drop off though can be verified by Davie Gullane as each of the strays brought in by different feds are logged in at the centre.

I don’t know names and exact times of who picked them up or when but this I can tell you. 3 Lanarkshire strays were picked up on Sunday including the 2 which were on my list. Who by or where they went once they left the centre I do not know? Where they are now, I have no idea?

The Aberdeen bird belonging to WILLIEDOO on here had mistakenly been put in the FIFE fed basket. When this mistake had been realised the pigeon was later taken to the far side of Arbroath on Wednesday and was in excellent condition before being released. It was expected that this pigeon should have made it home from there no problem given the circumstances. Did it make it home? I don’t know at this stage?

This is where the problem gets even stranger though????? The Dundee bird was also picked up from the stray centre…… on Sunday I think?? Who by, I do not know? This pigeon was definately logged into the stray centre at the same time as the others as can be verified by Davie Gullane. No pigeons were released at any time by the stray centre.

Now we all know that I again have this bird sitting in my loft as it reappeared here on Tuesday, which was 2 days after it had been picked up by someone at Lanarkshire. Again I have no name for who picked this bird up? When I phoned the Dundee club sec on Tuesday night he had never heard anything regarding the birds pick up, and didn’t think the owner did either. I have still had no phone call from the owner so I have no idea what he knows?

If this pigeon was picked up by someone from Dundee, who later realised that this bird was not his and released it when he got home ( there is no reason if he came from there to release the bird from anywhere else as he would have given it its best chance to get home I would imagine? ) then why did it not just fly the couple of mile or so to its original loft? Bearing in mind that this bird had already had 4 races back to Dundee.

Am I to believe that after being released a couple of mile from home it decided that it liked my loft better and spent the next 2 days trying to find out where I am situated? The bird was a little down body wise and starving, but ok otherwise. It took 2 hours to get back to me when I had tossed it at 3 mile previously and could well have taken 2 days to find me from Dundee but why would it? It doesn’t make sense? There is nothing I can think of that would cause the bird to come back here, no mate, nestbox or anything which it regarded as his. Stranger things have happened we all know that, but something about it all doesn’t ring with me and I guess now I will never know????

Thank god we are at the end of this years racing and I can hopefully forget about strays soon and get on with my own life without the headaches.

If any of the birds mentioned did make it home to the proper owners then I would appreciate the update lads. That’s all I can tell you for now and all Davie is able to tell you too. Where are the birds now? Your guess is as good as mine but I can do no more…………..

The bird hasn't made it here.

Hi Willie, sorry to hear the bird didn't make it from Arbroath and ta for letting me know. The whole thing is all very strange but everything is possible??? Hopefully it does appear. The fed sec told me that the bird was released in excellent condition as phone calls had been made regarding this, and that was the information he got. I guess its a case waiting to see if it appears but doesn't look likely now:(

Nothing poor about the bird mate, got a lift all the way to Arbroath so down to its own brain it never got home. Got a better chance than any of the rest of them in fact so whats the excuse????? If you got castrated I got crucified lol. Maybe time to get the crystal ball team together as Im sure you can come up with something between you on its whereabouts lol. Joking aside, we do what we can in the time or circumstances we have and sometimes they don’t work out for the better. Such is life and not just pigeons unfortunately:) ATB

My experiences with the stray centre are not good for birds coming to The North

I am sure you tried to do your best I only wish you could have made contact with Willie and can guarantee the bird would have been collected I know him better than you

All the best for the future

Ian
