had a bad flood in the kitchen early last sunday morning lot of damage popped the power lost freezer food some tiles had came loose and blocked one of the roof valleys directing the water straight in out in comes the insurance assessor to tell me the roof isnt covered as thunder and lightening and torrential rain isnt a storm a storm is classed as wind you couldnt make it up

My Policy changes every year, some in my favour, others not. One change that I noticed was in the Definitions: storm was an event where winds were 55mph minimum. My thoughts on that were (1) 'well how do I know it was 55mph out there when this happened' or (2) is this at a specific location like 'the Bookies bet on snow at Christmas, its got to snow at Glasgow Airport'? (which is nowhere near me, and in a different weather area from where I live).

Just a thought. Hope you have Buildings and Contents cover, which is counted as 2 different claims, and you pay an excess on each separate claim. Roof Tiles are Buildings cover and from what you have been told, you may need to get that fixed at your own cost. But the internal stuff is covered under Contents and that damage [contingency] was caused by an 'escape of water' from the gutter. 'escape of water' is a common contingency that everyone is covered for, and it doesn't matter from where or how the water escaped. Electrics is also Buildings and it was also caused by 'escape of water'. Remember that this loss adjuster works for the Insurance Company's benefit, not yours, so Appeal it first to the Insurance Company, and if you get no joy there, then go to Ombudsman.
