Walter swanston Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 There is a news report tonight that the Galloway Kite trail has generated 33 million pounds to the local economy in Dumfries and Galloway. This is because tourists flock to the area to view these birds. Before anyone jumps in I know that Red Kites do not prey on racing pigeons but peregrine falcons, hen harriers and goshawks have the same glamorous image in the eyes of the tourist industry and are regarded as money spinners by the government and local authorities.I do not like to appear negative but any cash raised to fight the cause of the pigeon fancier is a drop in the bucket compared to these figures. And no I have no answer to the problem.

Guest Owen Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 WalterI am glad you have said what you did because we can never take the RSPB on in a full frontal attack. The recent ideas on Raptors can only work by working at presenting the sport to the Public in a better way to gain their suport. If we expose them for the bullies they are without showing ourselves to be vindictive or overly agressive we might stand a chance.Somehow we have to get a grip of the fools who continually treat stray pigeons as if they are worthless rubbish. We have all heard of the way some Fanciers talk to the General Public and we simply have to stop them. I have had people say really stupid things to me before they realise that I am a Pigeon Fancier just like most of us do. If people can not afford to send for their strays they do not have the right to send them to the races in the first place. Sorry to sound so negitive but I think we really must all work at presenting the Sport in a better light to stand a chance to survive let alone create a better image with the Public.
