JohnQuinn Posted August 12, 2012 Report Posted August 12, 2012 Was this race flown Yesterday? If so are they velocities correct mate.
Guest Basin View Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 Fair comment about the velocities John, much slower than the other Feds on Saturday, they are correct. Angus Fed went at 08:45, our birds undoubtly went inland and probably flew many miles more than the race dist. Check a map Alnwick in Northumbeland to Montrose....my measurement is 95 miles, if my birds were to fly the measurement they would need to fly approx 80 mile over water, striking off the land onto the water before Berwick on Tweed, dont think young birds are keen to do that. Angus and Dundee Feds are the only Feds that start the young bird programme with 2 water crossings, the Forth and the Tay, it is always an issue especially with the Forth as to how well they get over the water in the first few races. ( Fog on the water has a major impact but that is an other issue ) Other Angus Fed coastal clubs winning velocities.....Gourdon : 962 Inchcape ( Arbroath ): 1069 Arbroath : 1074 Carnoustie : 1042 Inland Clubs...Forfar : 1255 Letham not known but will be on a par with Forfar. Another point of note our club winner is from Edzell which is well inland of Montrose ( probably 6 /7 mile ) and he has 9 mile overfly, us town guys always expected Willie Macknight to be the winner the way the wind was. Regards, Graeme
JohnQuinn Posted August 14, 2012 Report Posted August 14, 2012 Aye i see what ye mean, i was just surprised when reading the other results from Fife and the likes, with their velocities being kinda on par with what we got ourselves on Saturday. Atb for the coming races. Cheers John.
