Hi all

my other half recently bought an 02 rover 25, 41000 miles on the clock. Car seems to be running fine but I went to top her coolant up today and there is a very thin layer of brown creamy stuff on top of the coolant. Heat gauge has never gone above half and no loss of oil, no high use of coolant either.

Wondering if this might be head gasket probs, or perhaps worrying over nothing?

The car cames with 3 months warranty from the garage, she has had it 2 months. If head gasket would this likely be covered under garage warranty?

Cheers :)

head gasket most prob as water is getting into the oil....common symptom of head gasket failure.

Rovers do have gasket problems its quite a common fault with them unless its got a honda engine as i found out had to have another enginer put in mine and that done about same mileage as yours same as yours never used any water didnt even overheat when it happened there was just a bang and that was it  :-/

cor youer good with bad news i was going let him know gently honda engin not izuzu the best rover rubbish

Is that likely to be a big job to get sorted? She was wanting to use the car this weekend, 160ish mile round trip

Hya numpty...

Got some radiator flush and have drained/flushed through. The stuff that came out was like clots of cream, didnt smell oily but was a brown colour.

Done that friday evening, she used the car over the weekend and no more of this stuff has formed ontop of the header tank. Didnt overheat or anything on her trip.

Hopefully have solved the problem, although not convinced and it is going back to the garage we got it from tomorrow morning to have a check through as we still have a week or so left on waranty.

get them to pressuer up the cooler that will show if oil gettinto water system if youer lucky at sometime it could have had head gasket and they never flushed out the water system so anyoil that may gone into water jacket stayed there
