Last year, UK fanciers did exceptionally well in the car-hotspot races, winning 3 of the cars. The winners being N&A Evans & Cuthbert Syndicate, R & P Montilla and the Gribbles Choice Syndicate :emoticon-0123-party: :emoticon-0123-party:

For those that are not aware, the Sun City Million Dollar Pigeon Race after 16 years, has undergone a name change and a change of venue.

Air Sport Internationale has a commitment to their entrants and the 17th South African Million Dollar Pigeon Race is to go ahead on the 2nd February 2013. Air Sport Internationale are looking forward to presenting the Million Dollar Pigeon Race in South Africa for many years to come and are excited to explore and implement new technology. This is sure to make the race even more interesting.

New pigeon lofts to house 9000 plus pigeons are being constructed in Sandton (Johannesburg). Air Sport Internationale will present the South African Million Dollar Pigeon Race from these lofts in accordance with the rules published. The entire team that presented the 16th Million Dollar Pigeon Race will also present the 17th race.

The race weekend will be presented at Emperors Palace which is 8 minutes from the lofts using the Gautrain or 15 minutes by shuttle. Emperors Palace is situated next to OR Tambo International airport and offers luxurious accommodation in the D’Oreale Grande, one of the “Great Hotels of the worldâ€, or accommodation in any of the other 3 hotels on the resort. For full details visit the web site www.emperorspalace.co.za the event will take place in the 2700 sq. meter state of the art Centre Court, where you will be able to follow all the action taking place at the lofts on the big screens.

Because of the location of the lofts, which are within a stone’s throw of Sandton and Johannesburg, you will be spoilt for choice as far as accommodation and entertainment is concerned. Likewise with hundreds of South African fanciers in the immediate vicinity a taste of the local sport is possible.

The race itself has not changed in any way and the final will still present the pigeons with an 8 to 10 hour challenge.

Likewise all the competitions, car races and indeed everything else is exactly as it was in the past.

The quarantine lofts have been reapproved and we are eager and ready to accept and prepare your pigeons for the 17th running of the world’s greatest pigeon race.

As a South African, the new date does not bode well for South African entrants because our birds will be moulting. The South Africans that did achieve success the past two years, namely Kitchenbrand and Penkin, bought young birds in Europe and shipped them directly to Sun City :cry-blow:
