Worming For Pigeons:What'S Your Experience With Wormout Gel?

I am new to this forum and would like some advice with worming.

I have four fantails pigeons. I used worm enda plus, which caused vomiting to one of the pigeons, the others drank very little,

even though I added plenty of honey to it

I told the vet about it, so she told me to use wormout gel. But I heard that oxfendazole, which is in the wormout gel,

can be very toxic, can be easily overdosed. I called the company, they of course said the opposite.

Now I'm really clueless what to do, I don't want to stress out my pigeons and give them something they throw out,

and if they do I don't even know if it's effective at all.

I know there are some tablets, but for me pushing it down their throat seems a bit hard, as haven't done it before.

Have you guys used wormout gel? if you did, what's your experience with it?

Easiest method is tablets , read the instructions , some require 24 hours without food to ensure treatment is effective , this will kill all alive worms but will need repeating in 10 days ( the worm life cycle ) Harkers Harka-Verm Tablets would be my choice

ivomectin would be my choice on droplet on the back of the exposed skin on the back of the neck about every 4 months will keep them clear of internal and external parasites this would probably be the simplist way for you ,its good stuff orginally produced for cattle but now produced for all animals dogs,cats, birds etc except collie dogs it can kill them ,check with your local animal vet he will measure you some out should cost about 3/4 quid for a small bottle

o and wormout gel never heard of it ,i would try a different vet your vet should of reccomended something safer and better than that ,your vet mustnt be very experienced in dealing with birds,this can happen a lot even in northern ireland we have lots of vets wouldnt know a pigeon if it bit them, a lot of good fanciers on this site know as much about pigeons as any vet,a good pigeon fancier has to be his own vet.

I know about Ivomectin, this vet actually treated my pigeons last Dec with it, but for some reason she refuses to give me over the counter. Other vets here are even more hopeless :-(((( This would be my first choice too if I could get it,though I also heard ivomectin is only effective for some worms, not all.

I'm in Cairns, Far Nth QLD, Australia. Hopeless place for small pets & birds.

I gave back this wormout gel, got a refund. Found another vet, who's willing to worm my pigeons, with avitrol plus tablets, she said she would even come to my place, so we don't stress them out. Free of charge as well. It's very unusual, especially in this far nth qld area, where everybody is trying to rip off everybody. This lady must be very unique.
