john cumming Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 ppl couriers & transportation boxes can anyone shed some light on this matter, when you get a courier to transport a pigeon do they have an obligation to supply a transportation box for the bird or do you( the customer ) have to supply the box?? reason for asking is i had a bird picked up today and when i asked the driver for a box driver replied i dont have boxes, my concern being if that had been a non fancier the bird might have gone in a box that "was not fit for purpose" poor ventilation, to small ect?? putting the birds health at risk, or the bird not being transported at all. john
Guest ljb107 Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 I think the couriers should supply them to be honest. All the ones i have used supply boxes. Whats wrong with a simple cardboard box - grab a pen, keys, knife or whatever and put some holes in it - simples Lloyd

It is the responsibility of the sender to ensure that the birds are adequately packaged for transport. We are in discussions with the Scottish Homing Union for them to supply boxes in the near future. RegardsAndrew Ormsby > NAME = john cumming> EMAIL > COMMENT = what is your policy for the transportation of pigeons, does the customer have to supply the transportation box or does spds or the sub contractor do this as part of the service, i had a pigeon picked up today and when i asked the driver for a box he said he didnt have one, luckily i had an old pigeon carrying box from another courier, otherwise i would have had to get a box which most probably would not have been " fit for purpose " for the transportation of the pigeon or the bird not being transported at all, please adise on this matter.> > regards> > john cumming
gulkie Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 most couriers supply boxes if they don't don't use them, there are some good ones out there.
Guest ljb107 Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 Ah but thats because you used spds - they are just a normal courier that also do pigeons. All of the proper pigeon couriers i have used supply boxes. Lloyd
sharkfin Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 SPDS the best courier Ive ever used for price and quality. The only problem Ive found out, that people have to be informed that SPDS is the courier so they can put their birds in a box and send them anywere in Scotland for £15 if the box is big enough for 12ybs still £15 great value for money in these time,s and next day delivery buy tartan and save money

I would consider them right at the bottom as i have used them twice lately and have had birds sat in boxes everyday for 5 days waiting for them to pick them up! I always make sure i have cardboard boxes just incase the courier runs out aswell. Lloyd
Guest peter4pm Posted May 24, 2011 Report Posted May 24, 2011 only if the birds are big bodied like mines would you need to supply your own boxes , but otherwise i think the courier should supply them m8
sharkfin Posted May 24, 2011 Report Posted May 24, 2011 If I was useing a pigeon courier I would expect boxs at £35 for 4 but SPDS are not pigeon couriers but will deliever pigeons if they are in a box at £15 in Scotland only, at the end of the day its a pigeon man thats putting his birds in the box so they make sure the birds are comfortable m8

scottym7 Posted May 25, 2011 Report Posted May 25, 2011 Must be honest i have used SPDS for delivery of birds in Scotland and found them to be excellent, however i sometimes collect myself or get friends that are drivers to collect them for me, on the other hand i also use UK Pigeon couriers for moving them here from south of the border and again excellent service.
