right now just as racing is about to start, they should be slimmer/lighter/leaner than when breeding, (but not too light or thin)the skin on the breast should be pink and ideally all the flaky skin gone although you may have the odd bird with a small amount to shed, you should have a nice covering of small downy feathers on the dropping in the morning, perfect. ;)
