Webmaster Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Hi, I've had this suggested to me a couple of times in the past year so I'd like to bring the truth to everyones attention. The ONLY person who can read your Personal Messages (that is messages sent to you) is YOU Other members, moderators, even I (see below), do not have access to any other members PM messages other than their own. With one Proviso: I (and only I the webmaster) could -- if a situation existed that was serious enough to warrent me to do so -- through some quite time consuming and awkward ways get access to a members PM messages. I cannot stress enough that this is only possible, and would only be done in the most extreme of cases; and as such is why I have stated it here. If there are any more questions, rumours or anything else anyone would like to ask, just let me know, or post it here. Richard
Sean Posted November 18, 2006 Report Posted November 18, 2006 Richard it true to say that you do hold people's password? is it also true that you know other privert detail's ? As a webmaster when people join your site we require to pick a user name and password we also have to issue an email address. so upon this where is the detail's stored ?
Webmaster Posted November 18, 2006 Author Report Posted November 18, 2006 Members passwords are firstly encrypted and then stored on the web server in the forum database. I dont have access to anyones password, and that is why if you lose your password I only have the function to reset it (automatically a random password is created and sent to the member). The details I know are, your username (so does everyone), your email address (not accessible to public or members for your security/anti-spam). The only other details that I, or anyone else could have, would be from what you post on the website (or via PM to that member), or what additional information you post in your profile. The forum details are stored in the forums database; this is located on the webserver (accessible only through these pages and members login), but also I take a backup every so often, in case anything bad happens
