Guest redlad24 Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 i was on another thread last nite saying that my stock were a bit later laying than the racers, whats the max and min amount of days that the hen stops sitting or if its too earl a hatch???
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 i don't quiet understand the question.. maybe try rephrasing it...
OLDYELLOW Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 no more than 3 days difference between or foster parents will abandon them
Guest IB Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 Eggs due to hatch later than the foster pair's is the tricky one: 3 days later is the most I'd try, I've come a cropper at 5, and would rather 'still' the eggs for a few days before floating them. Eggs due to hatch earlier are not as bad, the fear amongst fanciers has always been that the foster pair wouldn't have crop milk for a youngster hatching out say a week earlier. I spent some time looking into that, before putting it into practice: pigeons start producing crop milk as soon as they start sitting their eggs, so 7 days early is OK.
