been told that spraying round the outside of loft discourages rats ....is this true??

I doubt if rats like the smell of Jeyes but I do not think that you can rely on something like that. I have seen rats a plenty at some pig styes and I know that the guy who owned the pigs used to scrub down with Jeyes regularly. The rats still came. The guy had a couple of very sharp terriers but they could never control the rats totally. Eventually it took the neighbours to complain and the Council Guy put poison down. That fixed the rats. The place was clear for around 6 months to a year and then they were back.

We have had a rat coming under the fence. It was the largest rat I have ever seen.My husband has been putting traps down, but the rat has ignored the traps and fed from my neighbers bird table.Afte about a week of this,we removed the traps and let the dogs wait for it to return. My terrier flushed him out and my wippet snaped his neck. The next day the wippet caught a pregnent female, and the terrier dug up a nest of seven babies from under a flower bed.Another week and we would have been over run with them.I normally dont get them going near the sheds or in the garden. But with all the snow I have been keeping the dogs in.I think we all need to be on our guard.Exspacially when food is scares. Deb.
