Guest joshdonlan Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 Hi When i ordered myu loft i also ordered 3 sets of nestboxes from Blakes. Now i have read on a forum that there boxes are chipboard. Are chipboard boxes worth getting or should i cancel them?
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 The sides/up rights are ok with chipboard but the floor of the nests should be made of Exterior plywood.
Guest surfer Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 My boxes are made of chipboard but it's the green waterproof one, no problem. I would also agree that ply is probably a superior wood to use. Some people say chipboard is poison for pigeons but I have used it for years and had no problems. Surfer.
ferry1 Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 i got six sets from them and had no problems they are spot on
Guest joshdonlan Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 I have just phoned them and they will make them in plywood for an extra £10 per set, so i am going with this. Thanks for the replies
superstar Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 Chipboard is best, they are a good grade and dont flake when scraped or fall apart but ply will at some point splinter when scraped and this gets worse all the time. Have had ply in the past but all chipboard now and wouldn't go back
DOVEScot Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 You get different grades of chip board, so along as it is a waterproof or even treated for dampness then they should be ok, same as ply, allso just because it is ply does not make it better than chipboard :-/

Its the glue that can be in chipbourd that affects the birds
