Guest newcomer Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Can you please tell me when treating for worms, canker, & Coxi, how long is it then safe before breeding period and can you give birds all the treatments in one go or do they have to be spaced out, if so what is the safe time between treatments.
OLDYELLOW Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 why not just test them and treat them for what they do have not what they havent
Guest newcomer Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 why not just test them and treat them for what they do have not what they havent I agree with you, but you often see articles that say about treating birds for preventing illness etc., before breeding, but they never tell you when and how many can be treated if you see what I mean. It crossed my mind as a safty factor for the future and for other novices like my self to note.
OLDYELLOW Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 i test then treat accordingly , at this time of year i wouldnt treat for anything until there moult is over , worms would be the biggest issue before pairing , i don't see any point in treating for canker until paired as you will find pairing can be quite a stressfull time for the birds and canker can flair up , so i find treating whilst paired up to be better for canker , which i have done in the past
Guest strapper Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 dont treat for canker untill eggs are laid,if treatment is needed at that time, some cocks can go temporary sterile whilst being treated...which will/could leave you with clear eggs.but they do come back to normal very quickly. best to have the birds droppings tested before pairing..but weeks in advance..as any treatments needed can be administered in plenty of time before breeding.
Guest IB Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 I'd like to make it 3-in-a-row Your birds will finish the moult shortly and this is the time of year to take a droppings test and treat only on the result. Remember that you will probably still need to vaccinate against paramyxo too, and by the looks of things the only supply will be Nobilis, so give yourself 5 weeks before pairing up for doing that. Not long in eating up available time.
