Guest joshdonlan Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 Hi On my loft there are two trap doors made from dowels just above the sliding doors. Im just wondering what they are for? Is there anyway to make a sputnik fit there? Im looking for a way to let the stock birds have a bath. Any ideas? Josh
OLDYELLOW Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 better to take a photo Josh im sure there the 50s 60s style of trapping , it reminds me must dig my old loft photos out early 70's
Guest joshdonlan Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 I'll pop out now mate, even though its raining
Guest Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 do they have a board running along the loft in front of them and are they above the doors if so ive the same. i blocked off mine with wire mesh from the board to the roof i removed the plastic windows and fitted 2ft sputnicks on the doors (a perfect fit) dave
Guest Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 better to take a photo Josh im sure there the 50s 60s style of trapping , it reminds me must dig my old loft photos out early 70's your right mark its the old style drop in traps not easy to put on an avery without blocking off the door mine is a 18x6 blakes loft dave
Guest joshdonlan Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 Hi Dave Mines a 16 x 6ft. Do you have any photos of yours?
Guest Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 sorry josh i havent mastered the photos yet if you have an old bhw handy you will see what mine looks like i think yours is on aswell 16x6 two sections ? exactly the same apart from the amount of doors dave
Guest joshdonlan Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 Heres the photos of what im on about Mark 1st 2 are from outside 3rd from inside Any ideas of how to fit a sputnik? Josh
Guest joshdonlan Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 Yes Dave they are the same. I was on about photos on how you fitted sputniks. Josh
Guest Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 the only way i could fit them was to remove the perspex panel in the door a 2ft sputnick just slides in and screw through the sides ino the door frame hope this is of some use mate dave
alex wight Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 These are late entry entrances, if you were going to use sputniks, you maybe should have had a different design
OLDYELLOW Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 yup mine on doors also then just put a dowel door on inside so can open it up in the hotter days of the summer i'd just block them tops up with perspex if you arent going to use them Josh then can also keep them out of sputnik when its damp and wet
alex wight Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 But you can, as said before, fit a sputnik on the door
OLDYELLOW Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 These are late entry entrances, if you were going to use sputniks, you maybe should have had a different design cracking job mate
Guest malonebros Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 hi josh i did what dave did and removed the perspex from the sliding doors but put in 5 hole stall traps. i think the gap is about 30'' though so you may have to make a secondary frame to fit round a 2ft trap
alex wight Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 Cheers old yellow, i,m getting there, for a new beggining
Guest joshdonlan Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 Thanks for the advice so far, what im wanting is somewhere for the stock birds to be able to come out for a bath and a bit of sunlight. I have already got dowel doors fitted behing the main doors, but i need to fit mesh to them.
alex wight Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 I built an aviary onto mine so the stock can come and go as they please. I can leave the bath in for as long they need it without getting the floor wet. Yours is looking smart mate, alex.
alex wight Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 I leave the late entrance open all the time and they come and go, no problems.
Guest joshdonlan Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 Hi Alex I did flick through you photobucket and saved the photo of the avairy which you built. It looks the business. I think i may follow that idea, but somehow need to build an avairy on a raft as the loft is already 2 foot off the ground.
Guest Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 hi josh my stock used to be all prisoners so instead of a sputnick i fitted an avery to the door whitch i used to put a bath in it was as wide as the door and about 3ft high i put the bath in from the inside and filled from outside dave
alex wight Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 Whatever suits you best mate, a lot of good ideas for you to think about, alex.
Guest cloudview Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 you could put a bay on end of loft if ther,s room , about 30 inch square , and the depth of the loft , just need to cut a hole in end of loft 6 inch x 6 inch , with a small sliding door
Silverdale Lofts Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 Hi Alex I did flick through you photobucket and saved the photo of the avairy which you built. It looks the business. I think i may follow that idea, but somehow need to build an avairy on a raft as the loft is already 2 foot off the ground. This aviary fitted on end of my blakes might give you some ideas
