Guest missfitz Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 Hi guys This is a pretty long shot but I wondered if you could help? I found an injured pigeon at my workplace today, managed to catch him/her when I noticed it was wearing a green ring and after speaking to the RSPCA took him to a local vet in Reading. It took most of my morning to catch him when I should have been working, lol!! The vet managed to contact the owner and it turned out the bird came from Newcastle and the owner was arranging to pick him up. Unfortunately I didn't get the ring number, so I can't be any more specific. Anyway, bit sentimental I know, but I just wanted to find out if the pigeon survived? It looked like it suffered an attack of some kind, the feathers had been pulled out of his back, but he seemed bright enough especially after having some water and a biscuit!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for a happy ending Many thanksSarah
Leroy Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 Hi Sarah thanks for taking the time to rescue the lost racing pigeon. It doesnt sounfd like the bird was too badly injured and alot of the time they make a remarkable recovery. Some have even got home after receiving huge gaping wounds. They are very resiliant birds. Most fanciers I know help their birds recover as much as possible in the hope that they can race again, so you might just find that the one you helped rescue goes on to win a race next year - you never know. Thanks again. Lee
chicken head Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 Good for you for helping out. It isn't easy to catch a pigeon if you are inexperienced so well done. If it was eating and drinking it is a very good sign. If they don't show interest in eating and drinking then they are probably going to die, so rest easy. I'm sure the owner will be delighted. All the best
