Wiley Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 should lay her first egg anywhere between 6-10 days,
JohnQuinn Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 She could lay anytime as you cannot be certain when they took on with each other, the Ck may well have been treading her for days before you seen them mating.Have a look in the nest every night about 7pm, she will lay her 1st egg around 5.30/6pm, she will then lay her 2nd around 1.30/2pm 2 days later. In order for both eggs to hatch together you should remove the first one and put a "wally" egg in until the 2nd egg is laid, then put the 1st one back in with the new 2nd one.Exciting times for you in the loft, i hope you watch and learn a little about the development of pigeons, the nest is where it all begins.
Guest skippersworld Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Thanks for your advice John! Will keep an eye on the nest and hope all goes well!! Does it matter if the eggs both dont hatch at same time then?
JohnQuinn Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Thanks for your advice John! Will keep an eye on the nest and hope all goes well!! Does it matter if the eggs both dont hatch at same time then? No it doesn't really but it does mean they are both the same size in the nest. Sometimes keen parents will sit the first egg and when they do the yb's will hatch on different days, giving the first egg laid an advantage over the other due to size. It CAN make a difference but not necessarily so.
