Guest Kurt Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 Hi - Not sure if Im posting in the right place but I have a pigeon who has been stopping in my garden the last few nights ( One green band and one yellow ) so Im guessing its not wild. Ive read up a bit today and put some fresh water down and some rice ( uncooked ) Maybe its just a bit lost and needs to build its strength. any suggestions ??? thanks K
OLDYELLOW Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 it may go after its had a rest and fed up , if your concerned it may be better if you can contain the bird in a box or something where it has access to food and water and ensure has plenty of ventilation holes in box , if you manage to catch it and get its ring number we will be able to forward the birds pigeon club to which its owner flys , alternatively the bird maybe stamped with a phone number on its wing if you carefully open the wing up , thanks for trying to help this bird
Guest Kurt Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 Well Ive just gone out to buy some lentils see if he likes that - not tried to catch as yet just hopes it regains strength and finds home
Guest Kurt Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 Not sure if I should be concerned but just checked on it and there where three Magpies eating the food Id put down - poor pigeon in the middle of it all -- do Magpies attack pigeons ??
chicken head Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 Yes they do, a fella I know lost 11 young birds because magpies attacked and scared them off. If it is an old bird it will be clever enough to avoid them. I think the magpies only really chase them for the feathers so they can build nests.
Guest Kurt Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 Thanks for replying - well Ive tried to feed and water it and put a semi upturned recycle bin near the house for shelter as I think he likes it there considering the pigeon poo on my door step LOL
