Guest pigeonguy147 Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 just noticed that one of my stock hens has a very long nail on both her back claws over an inch long any one seen this before do i just trim it or what?
JohnQuinn Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 A would cut it, might not be doing any harm but its no doing any good thats for sure. Would take to the Normal length of a doos nail. jmo
Wiley Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 be careful however i would snip one bit at a time, as ive known fanciers to go to short and hit a vein and caused excessive bleeding
Guest Freebird Posted July 25, 2010 Report Posted July 25, 2010 I have to cut some of my birds (tumblers) claws every couple of months. It seems to be the light coloured claws as the dark claws do not over grow??? I just use a little nail nipper (the ones that fold away) As said above be carefull with how much you take off. I did do it too short on my first go but the bird was fine. One inch is kinda long though.
Guest slugmonkey Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 need more aggregate on floor as they arent wearing these down I lost a really spectactular hen when she got tangled by one of these nails just get a guillotine style dog nail trimmer and cut it back to 3/8 inch 8mm ? or so you can use a light from behind to see where the quick ( fleshy part that bleeds ) is and use this as a guide also watch older cocks as this condition may also hinder mounting
