I have converted the front of my loft to polycarbonate. I have used the clear to give me the maximum light. It seems to be working very well. I think if I were you I would use the clear on the roof but I would have curtains to reduce the light intensity when I needed to. You may need to increase your ventilation to disperse the heat during the hot days of Summer. I have seen a system in Belgium where the Fancier removed the widows on hot days and replaced them with wired frames.

I have used polycarbonate on my roof and the windows will also be the same only they will slide open in warm weather.
