Don't let the bird preen itself, and yes, use a good quality washing up liquid - that's what the rescue centres use on oiled-up seabirds, just a matter of repeat washing and rinsing till you get the oil off.

 

Outside temperatures have taken a dip so you may need to bring the bird indoors till it dries off.

yup advice spot on ensure you get the oil off the skin :) massage liquid in and keep rinsing id wrap up in a towel and sit on a semi warm hot watter bottle so doesnt preen itself :) also give a charcoal tablet to clean it out as may have ingested some :)
