Guest bigda Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 to noisey, why not get the extractor they use in toilets and use 4" soil pipes with vents on them
retired Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 Will ask for my own curiosity as much as anything but wouldnt that be noisy?
Guest youngboy Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 well yes i belive it would! but wont the noise not disturb the pigeons no? you have pigoen lung yes?? always where a mask for your safety! so i would have a complete open front loft and try get the shelter on the front of the loft out 2 ft or more so rain wont get in! all the best doh! hope everything works out fine for you! i forgot to add maybe a chimney in each section????? like the following links http://www.everythingforpets.com/ventilation_chimney_with_motorised_fan.pet/use.id.5.item_id.1263.dept.184/ http://www.everythingforpets.com/ventilation_chimney.pet/use.id.5.item_id.1260.dept.184/
chaz Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 A pic of my y/b pen and before cleaning I give a light mist spray so the fine particles are not in the air it is not 100% dust free but does help with my PFL and if you look at the post of my yearlings you will see the birds are in good condition despite the open aspect of the pen, but I feel they do eat more so if you have an "open" loft you may need to feed more than you would with a traditional loft design

p charlton Posted March 28, 2010 Author Report Posted March 28, 2010 what about when it rains you leave it open is the floor ply also whats the size and how many young do you keep in it
chaz Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 It is left open all the time I did intend making shutters but even in heavy rain it doesn`t get very wet and with being open once the rain stops the floor dries in no time at all , it is just a 6x4 garden shed I hade made with out any boarding on the front and just meshed it myself before assembling it, it held 16 y/b`s comfortably last year would perhaps be okay for a max of 20 as obviously has ample ventilation , I hope to use box perches this year the V`s were used as a quick fix as I was running out of time ;D the floor is planks with Ply overlaid on top to make for easy scraping and the ply can be lifted and pressure washed before each seasons y/b`s are placed in the pen hope this helps you a little
